melika091900 Posted January 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2008 We are booked on carnival pride for 2/24/08 I just noticed over the weekend, the prices went down alot, since we are booked in a 6a and there are no more 6a's avail i cant see if ours did I called carnival and they told me the same thing, theres no way to tell since none are avail. BUt they did say if we downgrade and book a 5A we would get 90$ back per person, would this be worth it ? are 5A oceanviews? or french doors? Im sorta stuck.. i dont know what to do , any advice ?? thanks in advance.. we are currently booked midship 1211
zebra36 Posted January 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2008 Looks like the 5A's are all outside obstructed view cabins ie: lifeboats blocking view on deck 4. I would not switch but you have to decide what is important to you. Good luck with your decision.
cruisinjerseygirl Posted January 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2008 If you don't mind an OV with obstruction then go for it, it's a nice savings. I actually have only done balcony rooms but going to talk to DH about doing an OV instead for our next cruise to save money...we are hardly ever in there at all so we may as well. melika091900 Posted January 7, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted January 7, 2008 i know we use to do balconys on every cruise until we noticed we are never out there, and we can go up to the top deck and experience the same thing , so we have been booking insides, this cruise on the pride it was the same price for us to book an oceanview ,thats the only reason why I got a window, so im thinking about the french doors now... im still undecided,, I hope it doesnt mess up our reservations or anything.. ill let you know what happens thanks Melissa

oysterfiend Posted January 7, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 7, 2008 Hey I see you have been on other cruiselines other Carnival. do you now think carnival is best value for Money? It was the reason we booked with them. All the other cruises were way more expensive. like to read you views as you have sailed other lines
HeidiHo Posted January 7, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2008 The 5A cabins on the Pride and all Spirit Class ships have the French doors and obstructed views. They do open for fresh air but there is a railing there to prevent you from being able to go out. There are lifeboats that obstruct the view. I have never stayed in one of these cabin but I saw the one that my friend had on the Pride.

It was the reason we booked with them. All the other cruises were way more expensive. like to read you views as you have sailed other lines we liked carnival. but celebrity was our favorite, depending on when and where you go sometimes there is really good deals on celebrity also. no one compares to their service, NCL was good also, but the freestyle dining , we didnt really like. if I rated them , it would be celebrity, carnival, then NCL . any other questions let me know melissa

Did you talk to your PVP yesterday, or was it some random agent?
Peery5 Posted January 8, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Our girls had a 5A on our last cruise on Miracle. They didn't mind the obstructed view. We wouldn't let them have a balcony, but let them choose between obstructed view or inside cabin. They chose obstructed view and loved it. You can open the doors for air and to hear the ocean. I have only had balcony and ocean views with the little windows and I would have preferred the obstructed view over ocean view anyday.
alkbud Posted January 8, 2008 #12 Share Posted January 8, 2008 You have basically NO VIEW in a 5A. Be careful before you change.
melika091900 Posted January 8, 2008 Author #13 Share Posted January 8, 2008 ;) You can't downgrade once the cruise is inside penalty. Did you talk to your PVP yesterday, or was it some random agent? yeah it was a random person, but they did give us 40$ back per room since the price dropped on our 6A .. so better than nothing ;)
Peery5 Posted January 8, 2008 #14 Share Posted January 8, 2008 alkbud is right, there is little if any view, but I still liked it better than the oceanview rooms we have had before.
highcountrycruiser Posted January 8, 2008 #15 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Had an oceanview last year on the Victory and loved it. This march we will be on the Miracle and chose a 5A cabin. All of the 6A's that were available were below the casino and lounges. The price was very close for the 5A but they are on deck 4 with the shops below and passenger cabins above. I am looking forward to hearing the ocean instead of the disco. I think it is a personal opinion since I asked on cc and was told by someone that the casino didn't bother them since he wasn't in the room until the wee hours of the morning. Where the room is on the ship is very important to me since I am not a night owl. The 5A rooms have gotten good reviews as long as you realize you will be looking at a life boat. Enjoy your cruise! Rare tigervixxxen Posted January 8, 2008 #16 Share Posted January 8, 2008 I'm really cheap....and I probably wouldn't downgrade to save the money. If you were willing to be in a 5A then thats what you would have booked originally. Just think about whats more important to you. $180 is a lot of money to me so if you did want the money back I can't fault you. BUT, can they upgrade you to a balcony for cheaper? If you say the prices went down a lot maybe the balcony price is close to what you paid and you can get an upgrade like that for a lot cheaper. The 6As fly out the door on Pride and they might have a lot of balconies left...its worth a try. It was on the Pride that I had an oceanview guarantee booked and they upgraded us to a 8B balcony!
