wlfarm Posted January 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2008 Planning on June and looking for advice to sail Millenium or Radiance of the Seas. Never sailed either line. Please share any high/low points you've experienced. Also, thinking about cruise tour that will add Talkeetna, Denali and Anchorage. Would you recommend tour, or renting a car and doing it on our own? Thanks in advance for the help.
marci22 Posted January 8, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Try posting this question on the Ports of Call boards for Alaska; there is a lot of information over there.

maxs mom Posted January 8, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2008 The Alaska Ports of Call Board is the best one on CC. Be sure and hang out over there. We've done Alaska twice (once on the Radiance) and loved it. The first time we did ship's excursions.....the second time we did it all on our own from recommendations from folks here on CC. We did far better when we did it on our own, so check it out and have fun.
ShrinkinTexas Posted January 8, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Did the Radiance a year and a half ago. We did our own tour-renting a van--including Denali, Talkeetna, Fairbanks, Anchorage, and finally Seward. I would always recommend this. I can't imagaine being tied to someone else's time line on when to leave and travel, etc. It was nice to be able to pull over to the side of the road and take pictures. Don't see a tour bus allowing that! It takes some preparation, but all it all, it is worth it to go on your own. Have fun. The planning is part of it!
