Please don't blast me but I have never been on a cruise and I'm wondering if I should have specified non-smoking cabin?? My husband is very allergic and the smell of smoke really plugs up his sinuses.

We have a gty balcony but I didn't request non smoking or is there no such thing?

Just an FYI not meant to be a smarta$$

According to the CDC, secondhand smoke is an irritant NOT an allergen. Therefore, while your husband maybe very sensitive to secondhand smoke, he is not allergic.

Thanks - then he sinuses get VERY Irritated and congested by the smell of smoke- either way it is very uncomfortable for him to breathe.

I understand completely and feel for him.

As the other poster stated, Yes smoking is allowed in all cabins. There are no "non-smoking" and "smoking" cabins on Carnival ships.

However, as also stated, the majority of people who provide feedback after a cruise were very surprised that their cabins did not reek of second hand smoke smells.

Great!! I'm sure we will have a wonderful time!! Can't wait!! Thanks for the info!!!

klfrodo is correct. It is an irritant. Unfortunately, the irritant forms a abrasive area where the cancer starts. So someone does not have to be "allergic" to be exposed to cancer.

Now on to the cabins.... We have sailed on many Carnival ships and I have the nose of a bloodhound when it comes to cig smoke for many personal reasons. We have never walked into a cabin that "reeked".

However, a very SMALL number of people have posted that this has happened to them and on the off chance it happens to you...I want you to know that there is a remedy.

The Cabin Steward can completely replace all the pillows, duvet and even mattresses if necessary. They can also give the carpets a light shampoo which dries quickly in a just a few hours. And of course, hit the room with their "magic spray" again.

Just for future information, RCCL just implemented no smoking in any cabin as of 01-01-08. Cruisers can still smoke on their balconies...but no longer in the cabins. So, sadly, if you do experience problems on Carnival...you do have other options.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

We had a balcony on our cruise. I smoke so the smell doesn't bother me but DH is sensitive to it. We had smoking neighbors above us and one balcony to the left. He never smelled a thing unless I was the one smoking! ;)

The only time you might pick up the smell is when the ship is not moving. The smoke clouds may waft a bit. If you have friendly neighbors though, don't worry. Our smoking neighbor below us shouted up and asked if he was bothering us and if he was, he was going to stop until we went back inside. Very nice and I did the same thing; I asked my neighbors if my smoke was bothering them. They all said no.

Dh & I are non-smokers, too. Wow, it sounds good to say that - I quit just over 4 years ago, dh never smoked. The smell of cigarettes bthers us more now that I've quit than ever before, so I was very pleasantly surprised to find our cabin had absolutely no odor at all.

The only time I ever smelled cigarettes on board at all was in the casino (duh), the couple of times we had to cut through the cigar bar (double duh) and once when we got to St. Thomas and we were waiting to be cleared by customs (we'd already been to the Bahamas). They were using one of the lounges for the VIP waiting area and several people took advantage of the fact that there were ashtrays available and started smoking. After a short time, one of Carnival's employees came in and announced there was no smoking in the room - she received quite an applause. :D

As for the casino, there is a very small area located in the corner of the room (what??) where it labeled non-smoking area. Doesn't help since the smoke is trapped in the corner anyway by all the people smoking around the area, and the only things there are the higher priced slots that almost no one ever played.

I don't care who smokes and who doesn't or where they do it, but how possibly can they have rooms that don't smell like smoke?

It seems in hotel rooms it doesn't matter how well they clean, it gets trapped in the mattress, drapes, carpet, etc., there must be really good air flow in ships? or maybe people don't stay in their rooms long enough for smoke to linger?

I've never been on a cruise, so excuse the stupid questions please..

I know it sounds to go to be true but Carnival has a spray they use and you can not smell the smoke in the cabins.

I have been in many a hotel and always smell the smoke from the last smoker.

If for some reason you do smell smoke in your cabin, the Steward is very good about having the odor gone before you arrive back to your cabin.

This spray is also used by the auto dealers to remove smoke odor and I use it at home. It is called "Ozonite". It can be purchased at some drug chains and I think Walmart. Also at most auto supply store. Autozone and the like........;)

Thanks caribean dreams and jessemon!

You'd think that stuff would be like gold, I am going to look it up and carry it with me when traveling.

One time we stayed in a hotel in Dubuque Iowa and the windows were sealed and the room was really bad with stale smoke and it had little to no ventilation. They brought in what they called an ozone machine and ran it for 20 minutes and then took it away. It was decent in there for about 4 hours and then it got bad again, but I just attributed it to the drapes and mattress covering. They said they steam cleaned the carpet after every checkout, which I've seen happen at Ceasar's Palace in smoking rooms (they must use that Ozonite stuff too).

I've never smelled any leftover smoke in a cabin, but it's good to know that the steward can change things if necesary! We book a handicapped cabin, so we don't have many choices, and I really never thought of smoking and non-smoking cabins...

But everyone's right here... Never had a problem!

In the Capers where it list the smoking areas on the ship, it does not mention that smoking is allowed in your cabin or on your balcony. I have never seen ashtrays in the cabins or on the balconies. Where is it written that smoking is allowed in the cabins and on the balconies. I have often wondered about this.

I had no clue that smoking was allowed in the cabins. I knew the balconies (I think) but I never knew the cabins -- I thought they were all non-smoking. That's very strange that they would allow that. Hrm.

That being said, I've never noticed any lingering smell or smell at all in the cabins we've been in. I'm sure y'all will be fine!

I have never seen it written, but we were on the Inspiration in Dec and I called somebody, I think it may have been the Information desk, and they said smoking was allowed in the rooms.

I don't smoke, but as a courtesy to people who find smoke irritating, this is what I have done when I did smoke.

In the bathroom, there is a small vent in the ceiling. I used to blow the smoke up the vent and extinguish what I was smoking:rolleyes: in the toilet. The toilets are capable of handling a small butt (as well as some big butts:p ).

Smoking on the balcony does affect others...no matter how hard you try not to, not to mention it's a potential fire hazard.

I really could care less when people smoke, but one thing I despise...is seeing burnt out, water logged butts in the drainage area on the balcony...gross !

For the poster that asked about smoking in cabins and knowing if it was allowed, I simply requested an ashtray from my steward. He emptied it daily and left a fresh one behind.

I don't smoke in the house at home, so therefore don't smoke in hotel rooms or cabins, so kept it to approved outside areas. We also sat on the side of the ship at the adult pool that allowed smoking (large butt containers all along that side of the ship).

I also have never noticed a lingering smoke smell in the cabins.

Please dont flame...they do not allow candle and irons but you can smoke in the cabins??

I understand that people forget to turn off the iron and candles can be hazardous but people can and do fall asleep when smoking sometimes, especially if they have been drinking..

Again..I do not want to offend any smokers and I realize that most do not fall sleep but it does happen...
