Luggage Valet FLL Recent Experience

Recommended Posts

I tried posting this on the Eastern Departures Florida board with no response. Maybe somebody here can help. I also did a search but didn't find any recent info on the luggage valet program at Port Everglades.

For those of you that used the program recently, did you collect your luggage and walk it through customs or did you not see your luggage until your destination?

This was posted by Wrona as an answer to a post asking the same question from CC Ziggypup.

There are two different systems depending on the port.

For Port Everglades, Miami and San Juan, PR:

Luggage will get laid out with the rest of the luggage that is coming off the ship. You will claim their luggage and present yourself to Customs. Once cleared, you will proceed to a location outside Customs Hall and drop off you luggage with one of our staff members. Your luggage will then go directly to an in-bond truck to be transported to the airport.

For San Diego, Seattle, Vancouver, Los Angeles and Port Canaveral:

Your luggage will not be laid out with the rest of the luggage coming off the ship. It will go directly into an in-bond truck for be transported to the airport. You will present yourself to Customs and if required, will be reunited with your luggage for inspection.

Ziggypup, the advantage is you skip certain lines. On days when cruiseships are in port, they airports in South Florida can be a mess. The advantage of the Luggage Valet is you skip the worse mess - the lines to checkin. Unless you are flying home on a weekday, expect MIA to be crowded as there are at least 5 to 6 ships in Miami an every weekend day in March (not to mention the ships up at Port Everglades which will also be sending cruisers to MIA). With that many ships, any advantage you can have to get ahead of people in line is well worth it. Even on some weekdays there are as many as 4 ships in port.

Thanks Alexis, I actually prefer to get my luggage so I can shove my toiletries in and don't have to carry it with me all day to the left coast.

Good to "see" you. I used your little dancing numbers in my countdown for my last Empress cruise and the Roll Call people loved them. Using them in this one too. ;)

I agree with you on getting the luggage before it goes to the airline people. I also feel safer knowing it is there. In San Juan we just had to claim it first as we did in Miami from the Navigator.

I understand it has been changed in Miami now since we all cruised. You no longer claim it or see it. :o

I am not even sure what I do in Port Canaveral yet? :D It will probably change before I sail anyway.

Enjoy your cruise. ;)

Hi Alexis - You are right about seeing your luggage, I hadn't thought about that advantage. Every time I think I have all this down, things change. I'm taking my best friend on this one, Thom is staying home. She's never cruised and is sooooo excited. She doesn't need dancing countdown numbers, they are in her head LOL. It's really fun for me too, I can't wait to see her face.

Oh my, you are going to have so much fun showing her the best of the cruise world. She certainly has a great and knowledgeable guide to show her all the good things about cruising. I hope she likes it as much as you do. But, then Thom might be home more often as the girls go cruisin'. :D

Take Bonine along!!!! One never knows. :o

If you see me floating around the boards when you return, let me know how she liked it. I am always curious what people think now a days. We have all been doing cruises for so long from tiny ships on up that is just always great in our minds.

Will do! I'm hoping to do a live report, taking my new laptop due to some work obligations, if Windows Vista and time allows LOL.

I will look for that on the boards. Thanks for the heads up. ;)

Have a great cruise!

We recently used the luggage valet service from Miami. We also booked the airport transfers. Everything worked out so well. We picked up the luggage, walked through customs and then we were directed to an American Airlines desk where they took the luggage from us. That was the last we saw of it until we got to JFK airport. We then had to transfer to Virgin for our flight back to London. We were very glad to see every piece there as we were a little nervous. We also had our boarding passes printed on board the ship which were delivered to our cabins the night before. We then went to the coach directly to the airport. We were able to go right to security without checking in and without worrying about our luggage. It was fantastic and so worth the price! I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

We did the Valet Luggage deal yesterday when we got off Jewel. It is worth the extra $$$. When we arrived at FLL, there were very long lines with people trying to check their bags. There were about 7 cruise ships off loading at the same time. With our boarding pass all ready printed, we just cruised thru to the gate.

The above was the process for all of my cruises pre 9/11, glad to see it added back. Used the vallet service in Port Canaveral on the Mariner in May 2007 where you set your luggage outside your stateroom and don't see again until you reach your destination. All who signed up for this service met in a special lounge and were led off the ship together. About 30 signed up. One piece of luggage didn't make it to my final destination in Knoxville, Tn. Delta had to pay a special courier to drive 2 1/2 hours to get it to my house the next day. But, was nice to not have to fool with the luggage.

I see you are from Henderson NV. We are headed out to Lake Las Vegas later this week. Any recommendations for restaurants, etc for the area other than on the Strip?

Thanks

Pam

Not knowing what you like, this is hard. There is every chain restaurant one can imagine here in Henderson.

For something more special, I can give you our favorites.

1. The Tuscany Grill on Eastern in Henderson. Great Itialian food. Also fish, chicken and other. Very popular.

2. Also, inside the Sunset Station Hotel Casino on Sunset Rd. in Henderson there are two or three very fine restaurants. One a fine steak house and one the Capri restaurant that we eat in every Christmas when we are here. It has Italian, steaks, chicken, seafood, etc. Very good food and I think very good prices.

We of course have every chain restaurant there is. Not knowing what you like I will try to give you our favorites that serve a variety.

2. Also, inside the Sunset Station Hotel Casino on Sunset Rd. in Henderson there are three very fine restaurants. One a fine steak house, Sonoma Cellar Steakhouse, one the Capri restaurant that we eat in every Christmas when we are here, and Costa Del Sol a Mediterranean-style seafood restaurant.

You can see them all in this link.

3. A French restaurant.

I am not one for French food, but our friend is and we ate here with him once. He said it was great. We ate it.

Thank you so much for those recommendations along with their websites. That is very helpful and I think we will plan to visit Capri while we are out there.

Thanks again. Enjoy your upcoming b2b cruise.

Pam

It is hard not knowing your likes and dislikes.

Capri is very good. ;)

I do not know if you are familiar with Sunset Station, but their buffet is also a really good one if you just want to do something like that on a different day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also check that out on the same website. ;)

All different stations with American, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Big Salad Bar, Desserts and drinks for one price. ;)
