Robyn...Welcome back. As you can see we have been keeping the thread going. Easy to do as where else can you find out everything you need to know about the AOS.

Not sure about a Hotel for the day in SJ. Our flight is out later as well. We are looking at a tour that has airport drop off.

I'll probably get in trouble with the mods for posting this (since I am a local), but a new hotel is opening this coming November very near where the Adventure of the Seas docks. It's right next to the Convention Center. It's the same flag as the very popular Old San Juan hotel across from the piers. They are already taking reservations.

Can anyone recommend a post cruise 'Hotel for the day", our flight is not untill 4:40pm so I thought we would do some touring but DH just thought to get a hotel for the day.
We are staying at the Marriott Stellaris pre-cruise so it would be nice to try a different hotel post cruise, you know prep work for the next time:D:D

Any suggestions???

Thanks Kar

Unfortunately, the Marriott is the only hotel I know of that does a day pass. La Concha may as well, you could call to check. You could also bid for a resort on Priceline, that way you'd have the possibility of getting 3 other hotels besides the Marriott. (Caribe Hilton, Intercontinental and El San Juan) Depending on how many people you have, Priceline may be cheaper than a day pass. Even if your room isn't ready early, you would still have all the same privileges as a day pass and then later you'd have a room to shower and nap in.

We've gotten day passes at the Caribe Hilton twice. You have to call that morning for availability and the rate. The day pass will give you a room and use of the entire facility from 9:00AM - 6:00PM. It was a relaxing way to end the cruise.

We used the Hotel Caribe this last July. Called in the morning and the assured us there was room for the day and they gave us a rate. When we showed up they said "Sorry... we don't have any room!". We were able to "work it" thought, and somehow they were able to find a room for us.

I had a list of hotels that did day rooms, Hotel Caribe, La Concha, Intercontinental and Embassy were all possibilities.

Is there a reason you can't say the name of this hotel? I'm not familiar with the Old San Juan hotel across from the piers. I'd like to make a reservation.

Here you go, http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1523

Looks nice, but you'll still need to take a cab to the pier as it's still a long walk down the road to the pier, especially with luggage, no walking across the street like with the Sheraton OSJ.

Aviator, I don't think you'll find any problem posting a recommendation like this as a local on this board, it's just there was some rampant behind the scenes advertising going on on the San Juan boards, so they cracked down on it a little. I see locals on all the other boards making recommendations and they don't give them any flack.

I just called the Caribe Hilton and they do a day room which includes a room and use of all the facilities from 9:00am-6:00pm. You have to call around 48 from the date you want because pricing is 1/2 of the rack rate. That rate can be quite high, so I would still suggest using Priceline for a resort, any of the 4 are great and you will probably get it for less, especially in low season.

Hi all...been very busy since my return from our Adventure of the Seas cruise, August 16 to 23. We had a great time even though there were a few factors that we didn't like...I will go over them when I write my review. I do want to take the time out to those who have helped on these boards...a special thanks to Toonjie! I had to go through all of my photos this past week and I uploaded them on my Facebook page.

Thanks! They are resorts. The 4 Priceline resorts are 1. Marriott Stellaris 2. Intercontinental 3. Caribe Hilton 4. El San Juan. All are nice. When you bid, if it is not accepted, you can add any other zone in Puerto Rico except Rio-Grande-Humacao because Priceline doesn't have resorts in any other zone except those 2, so you get free re-bids.

You are welcome, glad you had a good trip and can't wait to hear all about it. I know how it is, when you get home from a cruise you are so busy catching up from being away, plus the pressure of writing a review as fast as possible. Keep plugging away, we're waiting! :)

hi all,

My first ever cruise is next week September 13th on AOS. Can't wait at this stage, travelling over from Ireland on Friday 11th.

One question i have is about tuxedo/suit rental on the AOS. I don't really want to bring a suit with me so was thinking of renting a tuxedo or suit for the formal nights?

Has anyone done this and would you recommend it, what are the prices like etc? do you need to pre-book or can you rent after you board?

Toonjie,

Thanks for your beautiful photos and review of AOS. It's been awhile, but I have sailed on her twice but DH has not so we are thinking about booking a last minute on 10/24. We love the itineraries and have not been to St. Croix.
Do you happen to know where I can find updated menus? I know the menu is supposedly weak on Wed. nights, but we want to book Portofino -- possibly for more than one night.

Ken - looking forward to your review and hopefully some pictures.

Thanks!
Nancy

I did it on the last cruise on the AOS and had no problem. There is a man who has hours in the Royal Promenade that takes your measurements and they send up the tux to your cabin. My tux fit fine, I just got the pants and jacket and the cost was around $45. You return it to your cabin steward after the 2nd formal night. I don't think it's possible to do advanced or online reservations. You can ask any of the people who work at the shops of the Royal Promenade if you don't see the man there.

Welcome back Jan. And of course a couple of questions.;)

Have read on other threads that the food has not been up to par. We usually don't worry about things like that but we are bringing another couple with us...their first RCI cruise. How were the meals during your cruise?

Thinking about the tux rental. Do you recall the cost?

Any another tidbits are appreciated.

Ken...looking forward to your review.
Thanks Anna:)

Thank you all, I will get to the review ASAP.
As far as the food goes the Windjammer was just OK...it was the weakest of all our cruises, the dining room was good, not great. Thursday evening's meal was the weakest of the nights except for Wednesday when we ate at Portofino's which was it's usual superb. Our waiter Venice was excellent...couldn't hope for a better waiter! I send kudos to him! His assistant Zheng-Lei was very good.

Robyn...she is in great shape...one day they were even changing carpeting in part of the casino which was surprising, thought they already did that.

Conanc...St. Croix probably has the least out of all of the excursion. We did not do any, just took the shuttle to Christiansted which was $12 round trip per person...that is really where the shopping is.

Thanks Ken :) Glad you had a great cruise!

I was on Freedom last week and found it to be my worst cruise yet....food wise. We also ate in Portofino on the Wednesday night.

Luckily the food doesn't make or break my cruise experience or I would have been in real trouble!!!! :p:p
