Planning for Alaska on STAR in July

We are planning to celebrate our 20th Anniversary in Alaska on STAR in July (w/o kids;) ) What should we expect with the pool decks? I understand that the weather can be cool and could be hot. Do people use the pools? The hot tubs? Are then any deck-side activities?

We sailed the first week of August, and it was cold and rained a little each day, except the last. The pool deck is not very big. There are two slides that take up a lot of space. I did see people in the hot tubs everyday.

The pool only had hardy soles in them. It was quite a contrast with me walking by in my jacket hat and gloves. :)

As only a suggestion, In my opinion it is NECESSARY to purchase NCL's add on Tracy Arm jet boat tour. It is way superior to the ship sailing and you have a very good chance of not getting within view of the glaciers.

Here is a photo sample that says it best. The photo of the cruise ship is the closest it got. This sailing was also the first of the season that got the full "view", week of 7-22-07
