Do any cruisers just returning over the weekend have any updated info on Sunset Beach? Construction progress? Can you verify the price? Anything?

We plan on being there next week and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

...but when we cruised last April, Sunset Beach was $40 pp and we had a nice relaxing time. Hope this helps.

We were there on Thursday. It was still 40$ PP. Construstion is mainly centered around the old dining room. They now have the buffet in a covered area between two of the buildings and on the lawn. It was very nice. Food was OK. There is also the grill area with plenty of seating. The cab over was 3$ PP. It only takes a few minutes. They will hold your cruise card until you leave. You pick it up at the gate as you leave. Make sure you ask for a towel voucher if you need towels. You can pay with a credit card. There were plenty of cabs there when we left. Everyone at the resort seemed happy to have us there for the day.

Do they provide a day room, or a place to change and leave your clothes and "stuff". Is it secure? Why do they want to hold your cruise card?

Looking at Google, it looks like the location is just a short distance around the small bay from where the cruise ships dock, is that correct?

Did they have any SCUBA rental facility on site?

Was the snorkeling any good?

Thanks, for any help you can give us. This sounds like it may be our best option for a beach day at MoBay.

Hypo, I'm not sure if they have a day room or anyplace to store stuff. Last year we showered and changed in the spa. They don't have any scuba. Mo Bay doesn't have any diving, you need to go to Nigril for good diving. The snorkling is OK for off the beach. The reef is badly damaged and is a bit of a swim off shore. The water is pretty clear and there are some fish. We snorkled at the very farthest beach (the C/O beach) and the reef was very shallow. We couldn't get to the outter side. You swim through short sea grass to get to it. As far as we are conserned I'd rather snorkle than just swim so as long as there is something to see I'm happy. This place is well fenced off from the outside and guarded. It would be difficult for anyone off the street to get in. When you arrive they escort you to the front desk. I believe they keep your cruise card so they know you have left.

I need to reserve a day trip to the Sunset Water Park. Does anyone have a phone number for them?:p

I don't think reservations are required. I sent them an email and they confirmed that renovations should be complete and the price would be $40/adult and $20/child. Here is the link to their website for more information and a toll free number if you want to call them: http://sunsetbeachresort.com/waterpark.asp.

We'll be on your cruise, so maybe we'll see you there!

As I recall, there were some lockers near the restrooms that you could put stuff in for safe keeping. Yes, you can walk it - probably takes about 15-20 minutes.

Ok, call me a worry wart. I got it from my momma. I was concerned about the Sunset Beach being full. I know they said we didn't need to reserve us a spot, but after all it's our spring break. So I called and talked with someone other than the little air head that answers the phone. ( Sorry, don't mean to typecast) Anyway I asked all the questions. They may be crowded as hell, but never full. No lockers, but do have towels. I'm quessing they aren't the big fluffy Hyatt type, but I could be wrong. When you get there, you give them your ship pass, that entitles you to the discount. The regular price is $55.00, the discount price is $40.00 for adults and $20.00 for kids. I'm in the gym working on my gut, but popular demand I won't be wearing a speedo. Heck, probably don't have them in size 48 anyway.

We just returned from our cruise and we went to sunset beach resort. The resort is less than 5 minutes away, we took a cab it was $10.00 for 4 of us. The resort is gated off, not even the cab driver could enter. When you get there the resort will take your cruise card and you will receive this when you leave. The cost is $40.00 per person children $20.00. This inclueds food and drinks for the entire day also there is snorkeling equip, paddle boats, etc. there is construction still going on but mainly by the main pool area. The beach is small but very pretty. We felt very safe, we loved the resort.
