Carnival Spirit - 12 Day Cruise to Hawaii

Hello there. My husband and I are booked to cruise on the Carnival Spirit, 12 day trip departing from Vancouver, B.C. in late September of this year. We are both very excited, having only done one other cruise which was HAL from Seattle to Alaska last May. Unfortunately, since we booked our Hawaii Cruise, we've been getting some negative feedback about the Carnival Spirit; comments like it's kind of stinky around the rest rooms and the ship is looking pretty run down. Is there anyone out there who has done this same cruise on this ship who can reassure us that this is not the case? That would be wonderful! Thanks in advance.

I opened this for the Hawaii aspect, as we loved doing it 10 years ago, but on a different ship.

However, the Spirit class is a favorite amongst Carnival cruisers. She is the only Spirit class ship I have not sailed.

I just got off the Spirit yesterday and it certainly was not stinky! You could smell the cigarette smoke in the casino, but that is the only place I ever smelled anything.

I would not say it is run down either, although as with any hotel there are little things here and there that need some touch ups - a couple scratches on walls, maybe little bits of torn wallpaper, but nothing out of the ordinary and overall it looked great. Nothing that would make me think this was anything but a 5 star hotel.

The only downside was the food seems to have taken a downturn... I'm really not sure what happened, but at every meal, dining room or buffet, there were loud complaints from everyone around us (and at our own table). Breakfasts were excellent, but lunch and dinner were far from great cuisine.

I say keep your reservation, lower your food expectations a little, and you will have a great time. The service was great and the ship looked great, there was nothing to make us regret sailing the Spirit.

I've done the 12 day Hawaii on the Spirit (2005) and had a wonderful time. It's one of my favorite cruises so far! No problems with the ship then or when we sailed her in Alaska this past August. Have a great time! There are lots of fun excursions to take on this one...

I have devoured every thread and review possible on the Spirit as we are booked to sail her in May from Hawaii to Vancouver. I have read more positive things about her than negative and dont recall even in the negative review any comments like that:confused: I will post a review of our trip once we return in May if you are interested. send me an email to kdr69@hotmail.com

I am so glad to hear this. The reviews we have gotten are verbal ones from several people who my husband has come in contact with through his work over in Seattle, who supposedly have taken cruises on the Spirit. With your response, as well as the others I have received here on this site, I think I'll put my worries to rest. Thanks a million for responding!

My DH and I did the Spirit from Hawaii to Vancouver in the Spring of 2006. It was a wonderful cruise. The ship was great. Hawaii was beautiful and I don't have anything bad to say. You will have a great time.

We just got off the Spirit on Thursday and I can honestly say I didn't notice anything that was dingy or needed redoing. Everything was well-kept and sparkling.

I also didn't notice any smells except some cigarette smoke in the casino and on the smoking side of the deck--nothing much.

We thought the food was mostly very good--way too good for the figure!

Enjoy! You'd have to be looking hard to find faults.

Going on Spirit in 4 weeks, to the Mex. Riviera. Will write a review for the main page. Everything I have read to date on Spirit is very encouraging. I have a few that were not so great, but not all sources are reliable. 95% of what I have read is very positive. I think my personality and temperament are more in line with those folks than with the other 5%, who would not be happy with 500 pounds of platinum. "It's too heavy" they would say......quickly forgetting that their "burden" is worth 12 million dollars.

We have done the repositioning cruise from Hawaii to Encenada in 06 and loved it. We were on the Spirit in Alaska and we're going on the Spirit again in 2 months. She's a beautiful ship! I don't know where you heard it was bad. Enjoy!
