Barbados or San Juan for departure of cruise?

I see Carnival offers the same itinerary but with a choice of embarkation ports -- which would be better - Barbados or San Juan?

 

I know it might depend on if we wanted to spend a night or 2 at one before or after the cruise - since we've never been which would you choose as 'home base' vs just a few hours to visit?

 

I will post in San Juan's area as well..........

I would vote for Barbados myself...such a beautiful Island, and one that is not that easy to get to. Might be the only time you will have a chance to enjoy it. I think it would also depend on flights....probably more expensive for the flight to Barbados (and a long one at that:))

Thanks - the SJ posters seemed to suggest Barbardos as well -- I will check on flight pricing.

Leaving out of Barbados will be more expensive in both respects, the cruise and the flights.... BA will be your best bet into Barbados... Very few American carriers fly straight into Barbados. You will have to change planes at either SJU or St. Martin....

 

Also you must consider that you will be going thru customs a couple of extra times as Barbados is a British commonwealth ( I believe )...

 

A lovely island to spend a couple of extra days in none the less.....

P.S. If my memory serves me correctly you can only book an inside room if you sail from Barbados... All the balconies are filled in San Juan.......

We've left from both ports (Seabourne from Barbados and RCI from SJ). Go with Barbados.
