Princess Credit Card (for points)

First of all, you do not need to wait until you have enough points for a free cruise to redeem your points. You can redeem as few as 2000 points to receive lower valued items.

When I applied for my card they were offering 5000 bonus points with your first purchase. They give one point for each dollar spent on purchases and two points for each dollar spent with Princess cruises. I have two cruises booked this year - one with my mother and one with my husband and kids. The way I look at it is that if I use the card for my final payments and onboard purchases I will have enough for a $250-500 onboard credit on my cruise with the family.

As far as discounts on the cruise go, you can get a discount of $100 off with 10,000 points up to a free cruise up to $7500 with 300,000 points.

You can get a $25 spa credit for 3000 points and onboard credits of $100 for 10000 points up to $500 for 40,000 points.

Points can also be redeemed for special occasion packages and onboard merchandise as well as flowers and champagne.

I cannot say how this may compare with NCL's card as I don't have one from them. Hope this helps.

Based on the above information, you get about a 1% return - charge $10,000, get 10,000 points, get $100 off your cruise. If you use the card with Princess, you get a 2% return.

If you need to fly to your cruise, skip the cruise credit cards and go for the Citi PremierPass Elite card. Charge $10,000, get 20,000 Thank You Points, get a ticket worth up to $400. That is a 4% return on your charging. If you fly first or business class, the value actually goes up to 6%. I haven't seen another credit card that comes close to this return - - if you want to use it for flights. Sure, it costs $85/year. But you also get 15K bonus points with your first charge which really gives you 30K Thank You Points - those 30K points alone are worth $600 in flights.

When I opened my account, I set up an online access for the account. If you did this as well, log in to your account and you will see at the top of the page a summary of your account (credit line, balance, etc.) in that list, a line item on the left side is "My Princess Rewards." Clicking on that will link you an area where you can select rewards and put them in your cart for check out.

However, I have not yet been successful in completing the transaction, as I always get an error message. I called the 800 number last week about this, and the CSR suggested I try later, as I don't sail until March 15.

The FAQ also says that you can redeem by calling 866-872-6248 and speaking to a Redemption Specialist by selecting the correct option from the rewards menu. However, my experience was that this was not offered when I called, so you may have to be persistent.

I'm having the same problem converting my points and leave the end of Feb. I'll begin calling tomorrow to try to get a resolution to this problem. Thanks for letting me know this was not just a problem I ran into tonight.

...........If I read correctly when I got mine last week you can also call and buy points if your close to a tier. I believe it was 1000 for $30

That is pretty pricey given the 1000 points are worth about $10 in redemption value. ;)

I opened an account and booked a cruise by the date requested. They said I would get 10,000 points for doing this. All I got was 2640 points.

They say it will show up later. They said they would do the 5000 and I have to contact Princess for the other 5000. I called Princess and they said to contact Barclay and look online for it. What gives with this run around? Why did they lie to me? I should have used my Discover Card and got 5% cash back.

I also opened the card and should have gotten the 5000 point with my first purchase...they were NOT on the statement which came recently..I will have to check again on line as I would like the spa credit.

Wonder how quicky they send the credit or is it given on the ship?? I sail in less then 3 weeks..:D

According to the materials I saw online and confirmed verbally with the CSR, you have until 15 days from sailing to redeeem (and who knows whether that means you have to redeem by 16 days prior), but I would not chance it and get too close since my experience has been they haven't gotten the kinks worked out yet.

I received the 5000 bonus points with my first purchase on my first statement. The only other offer I saw to get bonus points was up to 5000 additional bonus points by balance transfers, but I didn't do this. I did receive 2 points per dollar for the final payment for our March cruise I made in December with the card.

Best of Luck!

I am expecting in excess of 50,000 Princess Rewards Points to be credited before our Alaska Aug. cruise ..........The Final Payment balance due date for our cruise is May 14 - I will pay with the Princess VISA card before the closing day of our May statements in order that points be credited by the June statement?? :)

In June, I plan to redeem 40,000 points from my account for <$500 $$ off any Princess cruise> and another 10,000 points from my husband's account for an additional <$100 off any Princess cruise"> (as noted in the Princess Rewards literature. )

The redeemed Points for <$$$$ off any Princess cruise> to be used for our Alaska cruise will be contingent on receiving the Points in our accounts in a timely matter and well before other August sailing date.

I was told that if redeemed at least 15 days before sailing $$ credit for the Points amount redeemed would appear on our VISA statements. As this will be after payment, and the credit does appear on our statements - I will ask for a check for the $$ or Points Redeemed to be mailed from VISA.

We haven't received a first statement yet as my VISA card was just taken out..........but I expect that 5,000 (bonus) points will be credited with the first statement for each of our accounts. :p

I read information that if you are Elite, and you book a cruise before Jan 31, 2008, you will be credited with an additional 5,000 (bonus) points - now that information has disappeared from the Princess advertising literature !!!!

If I book any cruise before the deadline of Jan 31- I will deposit with the Princess VISA and confirm the additional credit of 5,000 points before deposit. ;)

Has anyone redeemed points for <$$ off any Princess cruise> ??

I would appreciate any feedback on how it worked for you..........and comments on my plan..

Thanks...GotToCruise
