queenL Posted April 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We are traveling to Hawaii May 19th and really have our hearts set on a whale watch tour. It appears that it is slightly past their season. What are the odds I wil still spot a whale? JudyOh Posted April 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2004 When we sailed on the Independence 8 years ago, we sailed on April 3 and when in Maui went on a whale watch and saw 1 mother and 1 baby whale. They told us it was very unlikely that we would see any, but it was a beautiful day to be out on the boat. I would think May would definetely be too late. bambam Posted April 22, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2004 When we were in Maui in February, our shore excursion stopped at the Pacific Whale Foundation facility, and I was really impressed with the work they are doing. If you go to their website http://www.pacificwhale.org/, they have a link to a "daily whale sighting." As you get closer to your trip, this is as good an indicator you'll find, to answer your question. This season the first whales were a bit earlier than normal, but wouldn't want to speculate as to whether they'll stay later. Good luck!
Rare itsanita Posted April 28, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2004 Did a whale watching trip 6 days ago in Maui. We counted 12 different whales. We were thrilled. They said the whales seem to be leaving later than usual this year. You might get lucky!
