VIsa or not to Visa

Have been hearing things on another message board that ship we are taking Oceania, would be getting a "group" visa for Brazil so we won't need to get one. Still waiting to hear from our ship if this could be true.

I was truly under the impression that visas are a must..even if just ending your cruise there and we would be there for a day or two need one to get out of airport.

Has anyone heard of such a thing as "group visa for Brazil"?

Not for Americans. You need an individual visa and it must be stamped on your passport. The cruise line may offer a visa application agency type process (for a fee) for people who cruise with them. You can apply on your own and skip the fee, or use an agency not affiliated with the cruise line just as easily.

Don't think I would chance that.

Way back Mar 98, Royal Princess, Buenos Aires to Barcelona, with stops in Brazil, a party of 6 was denied boarding in Buenos Aires, because they did not have visas for Brazil. There was quite a scene on the dock, but they were left behind.

We were later told by a ship's officer that Brazil required Visas even though we would be "in transit", and that the ship could be fined for bringing in "undocumented" passengers.
