We've always used cash. For me, its easier to monitor my spending (not that I'm a big gambler or anything). I feel like the card sometimes feels like imaginary money. - Im not sure if you can use a sail and sign card. Off the top of my head, I dont think so... but I'm not sure at all, so dont rely on that. I know there is an ATM in the casino (with a real high service charge), so if you're going to pay cash... bring it with you!

no, it hasn't always been this way, but it has been for probably the last 5 years or a bit longer. CCL is passing the charge on to you that mastercard/visa passed on to them. Its like getting a cash advance for 3%...better than standard cash advance fees, but not good.

Thanks Jiggs, I should have clarified that I cruise RCCL last in 2005 and they did not charge, I am scheduled to cruise Carnival in Sept.

You can debit your account with your sign and sail card in any slot machine at no extra charge. It just shows up as a purchase titled entertainment. Then go to the cage and ask for the cash or chips to be taken off the credit you now have on your sign and sail card. I use it like a free ATM, but I also pay off the entire balance each month.

I used my Sail & Sign card to purchase casino chips on the Legend, once from the dealer and once from the cashier. If I bought $100 in chips I was charged $103 on my Sail & SIgn Account. Last Month on the Glory I brought enough cash with me for use at the casino.

There is a slot in the slot machine where you can insert your Sail & Sign card or Ocean Players Club card. With either of these you can set up your player's bank (casino staff will help you do this, just takes a couple minutes). As you play the slots, you insert you card and you rack up points that once you reach 1000 points you receive a $10 credit. If you win you can put your winnings in the player's bank for play at other machines or debit your S&S account to play. This way, if you wish to cash out your winnnings you don't have to lug a bucket of nickles, dimes, or quaters to the cashier, you just bring your card to the cashier and get bills.

We used our Sign and Sail card for all of our gambling and whenever we needed some extra cash- avoided the service charge and the ATM fee that way. Just put your S&S card in a slot machine and choose "debit S&S card"- you can put whatever dollar amount you want on the card. Then you can use that for gambling in the slot machines or go to the casino cage and ask them to cash it out for you. Just watch the spending- it's really easy to do and if you don't keep track of it, you might have a bit of a surprise at the end of the cruise!!

thats the best advice I've heard so far. Not having to pay any fees by debiting your casino card in the slots. Can't believe no one else suggested this!

Here's a "for example"--

3% fee on your S&S for $100 = $103.00 total

 

Withdrawing $100 from ship ATM = $5.50 ATM fee plus 2.00 bank transaction fee= $107.50 total.
