Cost of Fees

Our private TA quoted us a decent price for Freedom next year, and then stated that the taxes and fees were an additional $249.94! I was shocked by this and wondered if maybe I'd never seen a cruise price broken up in this manner. Does this sound unreasonable to anyone here? It's not going to stop me from cruising, but makes me wonder. This is even without adding on the fuel surcharge!

Different people quote them different ways. Just look at the bottom line. Many quote the fees and taxes in with the cost. Some use it as a come-on and dont.

Agree with the other poster. Look at the total to compare as some TAs break out commissionable and noncommisinable. Looks like the TA pulled port charges out of the price you usually see quoted on the Carnival site to lump port charges with taxes (are you sure it doesnt include fuel surcharge?).

Just ignore how they added it up, the total is what is important. Pretend to book on the Carnival site and see if the TAs total looks right that way. I would check it myself so I know if total is a better price or the same as Carnival.

My thought was that she was trying to make the cruise price more appealing, quoting it at $280 and then fees of $249.94, almost as much as the cruise. I wonder if she has cut her commission drastically if the fees are almost as much as the cruise?

Carnival's website and every mainstream travel website quotes the cabin only - until you go in to actually "fake" a booking. Then you can see all the taxes and fees, and sometimes also the fuel surcharge.

So, the base cabin price, by category, shouldn't vary wildly.
