Who decides which dining room you are assigned? Voyager of the Seas.

there is really only one dining room with different levels, that are named different. I would suspect it is now a computer program that figures placement out. How ever they do it they seem to do a good job because we have lucked out with wonderful tablemates

I would love to know how this is done. We have been on several B2Bs where we did have the same stateroom on both legs, and we would have a table on the lowest of the three levels on one week, and then we'd be assigned up one level or two on the second week.

 

Go figure!

In the past, it has been computer generated out of Miami Head Office. I was told by the Maitre D of Chops on Brilliance, that beginning in January, The Head Maitre D of each ship will be responsible for seating arrangements. Head Office will forward them the lists two weeks or something like that before sailing.

I had always been told that the earlier the booking, the better the table. However, we've just returned from the Voyager. We booked the day RCI opened the cruise and got the worst table in the house. So much for that theory. In the past, we've rated the food really good and wondered what people complained about. It wasn't bad but the cutbacks are obvious. And, we sorely missed the music played during dinner. The trio was outside the Casino. We found that placement odd but oh, well. The head waiter told us that if the 6 in our party would switch to late seating, he'd give us a really wonderful table by a window. We declined, however, I thought I'd pass along that tip.

When hubby and I honeymooned on the rhapsody a few years ago out of Galveston, we had filled out a small questionaire online when we booked. All the people that we spoke to on our sailing all said that the people at their table all had the same category stateroom. There were also several tables, including ours, that were all honeymooner/anniversary people with the same category stateroom.

I'm sure that's pretty labor intensive to do, especially with a larger ship/fleet.

I was told to fax a special request for our upcoming cruise to the Dining Coordinator for the Voyager. I asked for a large table with other adults since we're cruising without kids during Spring Break. It will be interesting to see if what I get looks anything like what I requested!

We've noticed that we get much better tables since we've been Diamond cruisers. We spent many cruises in what I call the kid's ghetto -- one area of the main floor where anyone with a kid or teen gets stuck -- because we always had my nephew along. However, since we became Diamond, we've been put on the highest level -- which we prefer -- without ever asking for it, and even with my toddler niece along with us.

Not too shore how RCCL does it, but we have had the luck of being seated with wonderful dinner guests each and every cruise. RCCL, whatever you do to seat dinner guests, keep it up. We, and our newly found friends, sincerely appreciate it.

Dinner seatings have been moved up by 30 minutes on the Voyager, something we learned only when handed our sea pass. Don't know where our original table was as the moment I walked on the ship I switched to a late seating instead. We ended up with a table for 10 next to a window with only 8 people assigned to it, including us and a couple who had also switched to late seating. Of all things, the last night we discovered that a table mate and my daughter know someone in common. Small world! We had such a great group we cancelled our Portofino reservations to enjoy the company one last time. There was a table for 6 and a couple of other tables next to the windows in that section that were empty.

We had our very first cruise on the Navigator last year. We were sat on a table of 8, all of us were couples, all of us were on our first cruise, and the age spread for the lead name on each booking was only 2 years (40-42). We all decided that this couldn't just be coincidence there must have been some planning to it, even if by computer. However it was done it was brilliant as we had a fantastic time with them all and we still keep in touch!
