Ensenada

Taking a two day cruise from SD to Ensenda in May, any recommendations on what to do in Ensenada or should we just stay on the Dawn and relax.

When we've gone on the Monarch, we've fallen into the same routine for Ensenada...and it really works for us...

We take the ship's Winery Tour excursion...

Princess appears to be offering it for your cruise:

>>Ensenada's Wine Country

Visit two of Ensenada's leading wineries located in the Calafia Valley.

WHAT YOU VISIT

Casa Pedro Domecq and La Cetto Wineries - Casa Pedro Domecq and La Cetto have been pioneers in the development of wine production in Mexico and have been around for centuries, earning respect for their expertise in the production of sherries, wines and brandies. Arriving at each of the wineries, you will be given a 30-minute guided tour of the entire wine process, including crushing of grapes, fermentation, pressing, aging, and bottling. After the tour, you will sample selected wines served with assorted cheeses and crackers. You will have the opportunity to purchase wine during your tour.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY

During your 45 minute drive from the pier to the wineries, your friendly guide will narrate the history of Ensenada and the Baja areas, informing you of the local customs and traditions. After your winery visits, you have the option of returning to the ship, or you can be dropped off at Ensenada?s main shopping district with its many fine shops displaying a wide variety of Mexican handicrafts and imported merchandise at affordable prices. You will then be responsible for your own return to the ship.

DURATION Approximately 5 hours

PRICE (USD) Adult: $34 to $44<<

(RCCL only charges $29, but still a deal)

Anyway, we take that in the morning...really a nice little tour...it gets you out of Ensenada, out into the countryside...The wines are surprisingly not bad ,...and the pourings are generous...

Then, we opt off the bus in the center of town and stop at Papas & Beer for Fish and Shrimp Tacos...Then we walk back to the ship, shopping along the way...

I have been there twice and just walked around the town.

We picked up some silver jewelry as well as some leather goods at a very good price.

The first time there were lots of kids selling chicklets for a nickle, the second time, we didn't see a single one although many of the locals bring their kids around the tourists and tell you it's their birthday or some story in hopes you'll give them some $$. They were very happy with a dollar.

I've said this before.... just stay on your floating luxury hotel and enjoy a lounge chair by the pool. :) The only reason I might go ashore is if I needed to pick up some vanilla or something similarly cheap
