Lidolounger Posted February 10, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2008 Anyone done this recently? I've swam with Stingrays twice in GC and once in Antigua - cruising with a friend who hasn't done this before - what can you tell me about this tour and the area that they take us to? scubagirrl Posted February 10, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2008 Anyone done this recently? I've swam with Stingrays twice in GC and once in Antigua - cruising with a friend who hasn't done this before - what can you tell me about this tour and the area that they take us to? These are not open water encounters.. the stingrays are in a large pen on Blackbeards Cay (and another at Pearl island).. you walk into the water from the beach.. and feed and pet them.. they are debarbed.. and very friendly. EricaLovesCats Posted February 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2008 Debarbed...good to know. Is it possible to take a cab (or better yet walk) to this Blackbeard place? Can you just sign up to do the stingrays with them or do they only do ship excursions? Anything else to do at the Blackbeard place?
flamingos Posted February 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2008 I found this, but don't know anything about it. I'm looking for information, also. http://www.bahamas.com/bahamas/experience/vendordetail.aspx?sectionid=49410&rightsectionid=49410&level=2&supplierid=15138
stsomewhere Posted February 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2008 We just did this 1/08. You need to book through the ship. You take a 30 minute ride by boat. Half the island is Blackbeards, other side owned by hotel. You can wade or swim with the rays. At feeding times they have everyone line up in two rows- facing each other. The stingrays swim down the middle. Some are quite large and knocked people over. You can swim with them as long or often as you like. It can be crowded. We were on Carinival Truimph, Also, other excursions Disney Wonder and another CArnival ship there, too. Alot of the chairs were broken. They have a gift shop and snack bar. Playground. You can rent jet skis and other water toys. We were there 2 years ago and the up keep was much nicer.
J and J Posted March 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 2, 2008 Can anyone tell me if this would be OK w/ a 5 year old? I assume she'll make my husband and I hold her the whole time. We had a display at our zoo last year where you could put you hands in the pool and pet them and if you were lucky feed them. She thought it was great. We had a display at our zoo last year where you could put you hands in the pool and pet them and if you were lucky feed them. She thought it was great. My 7 yr old was terrified of them. She had 5 circling her feet. There were even a few adults on the beach who would not go in. The stingrays were knocking over people during feeding. One woman got a huge bruise on her arm where on was sucking her. Another woman had bruises on the fingers. My DS-9 thought it was cool. But, was still a little afraid.
