Library on Jewel

Anyone used the library on the Jewel? (Or any similar ship for that matter) What type of books do they have? What is the policy for checking them out etc? Do they have children's books too?

Just off the Jewel - The library is sorely lacking. I was able to find ONE book to read. I had brought 6 books with me. Go to your local library and check out books prior to the cruise. The one book that I found was on the single shelf of Pax Book Exchange. I did leave my six books on board.

Note - They Do Not sell books on board. I was shocked.

 

I will be posting my full review of the Jewel as soon as I can.

We quickly checked out the library and in terms of novels (sp?) there wasn't much selection. I missed the pax exchange section though.

 

There seemed to be some interesting books on different travel options though.

 

I was surprized too that we couldn't get any reading materials on board (like magazines or puzzle books).

 

I don't remember seeing any children's books but then I wasn't really looking for them.

Anyone know if the Gem library has the same poor selection? Guess I may need to pack books afterall.

Interested to know whether all NCL ships are the same. We travel on the Sun in JUly and myself and DD (8yrs) are avid readers and we looking forward to checking out the Libary for some good reads when we were away.

Can anyone confirm that we need to take our books or are we likely to find any on the Sun:confused:

I've always taken my own books with me. My complaint with NCL's libraries on the different ships is that it's been so hard to find a time when they're actually open to check books out. In Alaska, particularly, I spent quite a bit of time in there reading and watching the scenery, and there was hardly ever an employee in there to check out the books. As a result, I didn't even look to see what the selection was.

 

They will frequently have daily trivia, crossword or sudoku puzzles available. Check on around on the table where the "check out" person would sit -- if one was ever in there.
