cmafour Posted February 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2008 We're considering sailing on the RCCL Mariner (again!) in late October. Our last cruise was a summer cruise, and the weather was perfect, but we're concerned about the weather conditions since hurricane season officially "ends" November 30th. We'd love to hear about members' experiences while sailing at this time of year. Thanks!:o
firefly333 Posted February 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2008 There is still a slight possibility of a hurricane even that late. We went out of Port Canaveral late Sept/early Oct and hit storms and missed one port. I would still go again, as the price is usually right Sept and Oct. Jacky4 Posted February 12, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Our first cruise was to Jamaica and Grand Cayman, the last week of October. The weather was perfect and it was a great time to cruise because there was a lot of Halloween activities for adults and children.
Scooter-n-GB Posted February 12, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Just keep an eye on the tropics, so that you can do your best to anticipate what might happen with the itinerary. The historical peak of hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin, is right about September 10th, and then it drops off, so mid to late October becomes less active, but the potential still exists for some tropical activity, and even if it's only a depression, you'll still get tossed about nicely.. :) But, as mentioned, pricing is GREAT during Sept and Oct. DW and I have cruised a couple times (third coming up) during this period, and have had good luck. Once hurricane starts, Cruise Critic actually has a forum dedicated to discussions of tropical developments, so keep an eye out for that link, come July or so. :)
blindrid Posted February 12, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2008 We typically do October, November due to pricing. We have never had problems even though we have taken a cruise in between. It would not and has not scared me off. Good luck.

alcpa1 Posted February 13, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2008 We have cruised in the Caribbean at least four times in October. The thing you must consider is - is it the cruise or the ports that are paramount? If it is the ports you are interested in then you must be willing to graciously accept a change if the weather is a problem. That being said our next Caribbean cruise will be in November. Not much difference. I just wish it were tomorrow!!!
