Car Rental Questions - Pride of Aloha

Taking the 10-day inter-island Pride of Aloha cruise soon. Questions I have re: car rental at several ports (Kauai, Maui, Hilo) are where to park if booking for two days in the overnight ports and whether or not you need a jeep (we've heard about some bad roads) or even SUV or larger vehicle for hills? Also, we're planning local xport (TheBus) on Oahu, reviews on that? We might rent a car the last day on Oahu just to go from Waikiki to the North Shore since it's so far. Appreciate your comments!

Hi,

few years ago (2003 cruise) we rented cars in Hilo, Maui and Oahu - Maui and Oahu were the overnights. No problem finding parking although it was a little expensive ( Lahaina).

We just had an average small car and we had no need for anything different. We went to the National Vulcano Park in Hilo, we went to Hana and Haleakala crater on Maui and the Polynesian Cultural center on Oahu.

There were people renting all sorts of other vehicles as well, ... including Harley ...... I guess it is good to have choices. Rental company will not let you use the vehicles in areas that are not aproved as 'normal' roads - so if you are planning on some off road driving, perhaps you need to make some additional arrangements.

Make sure that you pick the correct rental place in Maui ( depends where your ship will stay ).

If you have anyone over 62 in your party - there are some discounts or 'free' entrance to the National Parks with the Golden Age or the new America Beautiful 'passports'.

Enjoy your cruise and Hawaii

Wes
