If you're planning to spend some extra time here, know that Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Port Canaveral are all pretty close together. Port Canaveral is 45 minutes from Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale is about 3 hours from Orlando. So you could certainly see more than one area if you want to extend your vacation a bit and rent a car.

what time of year are you travelling? kids?

we had a great time at kennedy space center after our cruise on mariner of the seas out of canaveral. we had a good experience with art's shuttle service, who picked us up at the pier, took us to check in at hotel, and then to kennedy. kennedy was great, it was july and very hot, but so much to see and do in inside and air conditioned. it wasn't very crowded either (we assumed disneyworld would be so avoided it). of course, this may not work out for you if the mariner has moved to west coast before your trip. :)

I live in the Ft. Lauderdale area and there is so much to do that you don't need to make long drives. Ft. Lauderdale beach is beautiful. There is major shopping at Sawgrass Mills Mall they also have Wannado City there for young children which includes a Johnny Rocket's. There is a Boomer's amusement park near the port that has a roller coaster, bumper cars, arcade, etc. There are airboat tours of the Everglades, great restaurants. The Seminole Hard rock hotel and casino that also has many stores, restaurants and nightclubs including Johnny Rockets you don't have to stay there to go. In West Palm Beach, about 45 minute drive, they have Lion Country Safari and Rapid Water's park. You can go online and check them all out. Enjoy your stay & your cruise!

I agree. So much in the immediate area that I wouldn't leave.

Help us out some here.

Belfast, tons to do in Fort Lauderdale but I have a couple of questions. Will you have a car? Do you want to stay on the beach? What time of year?

Fort Lauderdale is a wonderful town with a zillion things to do but I need a little more information. Also, what is your budget for lodging and dining?

How many people? Kids? Ages?
