What is the difference? I tried the search but it was down. thanks

If you want to have the same person that made your cruise plans at Carnival assisting you at all times, and to have the capability to contact you by telephone and email, choose a PVP.

I do that with my CVS........some folks think that the CVS can't make calls.....thay can make calls, they just don't make solicitation calls/e-mail like the PVP.

this is COMPLETELY untrue.

i get BETTER service from my cvs than i do my pvp. HANDS DOWN.

a cvs will give you his/her direct extension AND email. a good one (like mine :)) will return every phone call and reply to every email promptly.

you can reach them directly, and they have their own voice mails.

the difference between the two: PVPs work in the "marketing department" for ccl, and they can call you unsolicited (like...a telemarketer:eek: , sometimes, but not always, is this a good thing.) a cvs cannot (and will not)do this, but will always call you in return to a call placed by you regarding a booking you have with him or her, or any inquiry you might have on a future sailing (i.e. if you want them to price it out).

a cvs will always lower your booking if a better promo comes along, but you have to watch and call them and tell them to apply it.

they can also deal with bookings where thank you rewards (gift certificates) are being used, welcome home credits, military discounts, etc.

basically, they do it all.

I recommend that you call your CVS and ask him or her what a PVP is, why do both exist, and what the differences are between the two. Then, I suggest that you call your PVP and ask them what a CVS is, along with the same other questions. You will be surprised at the answer.

I apologize if you thought that my answer was inaccurate, but you will find that yours isn't accurate either... :)

My PVP does all of that too! If he did not I would look for a different PVP:)

PVP >>>> CVS

Much more knowledgeable. IMO

cvs sits there and gets calls all day from those ready to book, no product knowledge needed - just the ability to type and listen.

pvps have to go out there and find clients - how are they going to sell a cruise without knowing zilch? they're not..

go with a pvp. if you don't like the "solicitation" calls. just ask them to stop - they will.

they work in the marketing department, and just like some cvs', some are good, and some are bad. i happen to have a good cvs, but a bad pvp.

i can b&m to get another, but why bother? i like the cvs i deal with. the pvps have you on their list for a specified period of time, no other pvp can pick you up without approval to get you "removed" from your current pvp's roster.

and i have no problem saying it again...you are WRONG.:) i call my cvs DIRECTLY and deal only with HIM on my bookings. i am NOT relegated to dealing with anyone who picks up an 888 line.

NOW, that is not to say that no one else can help me in a pinch if i choose to have them do so. i simply give them my pin, and they can help if it is something time sensitive (like a sale expiring at midnight that i am looking for a price reduction on, and my cvs is not in or has the day off).

so YOU actually need to stop giving misinformation to the OP by telling him or her that they will never again deal with that cvs on their booking after they deposit it.

that statement is patently false.

i'll agree with that statement...

some CVS' are bad and some PVP's are bad....

but I've personally met a bunch of them - from both departments...

and PVPs have always been the more knowledgeable/proffesional sort. If you have a good CVS - hold on to him I guess *that's a diamond in the rough*

good PVPs are mighty easy to find though.

I actually almost went to work for Carnival as a Personal Vacation Planner. You are required to have a background in travel in order to work in that department. A Carnival Vacation Specialist are actually in the main call center and that is an entry level position. They have menus with the information on the cruises in front of them. As a PVP, you have to have first hand knowledge of the cruise industry and you are actually tested before you ever interview.

I would have loved to work for Carnival, but it was over 40 miles from where I was living and the commute and hours didn't work for me with two teens.

You will find "jewels" in both departments. Those that really have a handle on the industry and more so a love for cruising tend to put forth more effort for their clients. I have dealt with both and personally love my PVP. I found my CVS didn't have the knowledge or put any effort into finding the best deals. Being in the business before, I always do my research first, but found I knew more about the ships than the CVS did. My PVP goes above and beyond to keep me up on specials, price changes and changes made.

If you find a good CVS or PVP, keep them and let your friends know. Referrals help them and those that you refer will be happy to have a good agent!

I've booked multiple cruises and multiple cabins with my CVS and he knows me by name when I call and ask me what sailing I'm calling about.

My PVP hasn't done anything for me.....I usually read about specials here a day or two before I get an e-mail from him.

I'm very happy with the level of knowledge and service from my CVS....there might be other PVP/CVS with even more knowledge, but if it ain't broke.........

Well I know many PVPs who know many of their guests by name - it just depends who's personality you liked better and who you decided to deal with. It all depends on the guest on which they like better...

but I guess I'm a little biased when it comes to this topic, so i'll just stop now :)

Not arguing, just telling my story and like I said...for me it isn't broke.

Have a good evening.

what does cvs stand for?

cruise vacation specialist.

you access them from the general toll free number. some are good, some are bad. if you like them, you will stick with them for multiple bookings.

at some point a pvp will solicit you through your online registration most likely, or through a past cruise. try them too. see which is a better fit.

to me, it's a lable. if i had a better pvp, i might like a pvp better, but i do not. i have had other pvps too, but have not used them because my cvs did a great job, so i may have missed out on a perfect pvp. one pvp screamed at me for booking with my cvs. not kidding. she was pissed!

i like the way this guy (my current cvs) does things much better than this girl (my current pvp). not only did he know more than her, but "I" knew more than her (and her supervisor), and that was scary. on my recent legend booking, she and her supervisor were dead wrong on a welcome home letter credit. i had to go directly to the dept that handles the welcome home credit myself and get the matter handled and applied properly. they hadn't a clue, and it's generated from their department, lmao.

now, what is telling about this, is the reason WHY i knew so much...

the reason why is because i had rec'd one before (from another pvp), but i used my cvs to book the cruise. when i booked this prior cruise with this credit, the cvs knew exactly what needed to be done and guided me through it. it was handled effortlesly and correctly.

so...bottom line, cvs vs. pvp does not really matter. what DOES matter is finding someone who is couteous and attentive, who replies to emails and returns phone calls, and who knows about the ships (there was a discrepancy on the liberty on line deck plan...i was freaking i was booked in a double when i needed a triple. he promised me the site was wrong, his book was right and that i shld not worry. i trusted him, because i know him well enough by now to trust his knowledge, and...he was right...it was the triple i needed).

Not true. I just spoke with my CVS today. She gave me her extension for that very reason.

The knowledge and service of the CVS/PVP depends more on the individual than the label, IMO. Find one you like and stick with him/her.;)

Okay, just throwing something else into the mix. My PVP is now a CSP. Huh?

Customer Service Professional or something like that. Still access her through the PVP number but some e-mails etc have the other designation, same number. So what is this designation-a promotion?

All of you have good points!!! some like cvs and some like pvp. Well I like my pvp!! She is wonderful. Yes she called me the first time for my cruise but you know what I was going to call Carnival anyways to book a cruise so no harm done. Now she is like part of the family!! She has done some wonderful things for me and my friends. Getting us a great rate on a new ship even though this undercuts her. And yes it does undercut her!!!!! She has given us price drops before we knew it. she tries to get the best out of our cruise for us all. I have her extension # and her Cell # and e-mail what more do you need. I can call her anytime or email her and she answers back very fast. So please don't say that a cvs is better than a pvp. It all depends on the person you are in contact with. Some good and some not so good in all ways!!!:)

That is a nice PVP. Willing to undercut the CCL price and pay for it out of their own pocket.
