smoking does smell pretty bad. i have been a smoker and it wouldnt surprise me that the crew could make this type of mistake. i dont think its a big deal though. sounds like they are trying to do their job. as a smoker im sure you get worse treatment (looks, comments, attitudes) from non smokers on a weekly basis.

I think I stated that I don't have a problem with them enforcing their policy. I do have a problem with being wrongly accused without the ability to defend myself, and I do have a problem with them involving a 15 year old boy. I have a problem with her jumping to conclusions without checking facts with anyone. Had Shelly come to me and said, you know, I smelled a bit of smoke in the cabin, I could have explained to her that I was smoking only on the balcony and I thought we'd done a good job of keeping the balcony door closed, but that we would be more careful in future. Done end of story, and no one gets upset. Our stateroom attendant was pretty clear to both Shelly and Terrence that we had not been. Unfortunately, since he hadn't been asked before the letter was issued, it was too late. You have to see this letter though. The tone in it is quite nasty, which is fine I guess if you are breaking a rule and get caught, but I wasn't.

And if someone has been smoking in a cabin, it should be pretty easy to tell, and should be more than a "bit" of smoke that she said she smelled, which should also have clued her in that maybe some got in from the balcony door by error.

In fact I didn't smoke in the cabin when it was allowed, but I didn't worry about my balcony door so much then.:D

It's a shame they brought your "giant son" into it. That's plain wrong.

You'll have a great time on her. The crew was great, the ship is beautiful and you're on vacation, what's not to like?:D

It's a personal choice for me to choose another line now and it's for more reasons' than this incident, but for many years, RC was the cruise line of choice for us, and enjoyed almost all our cruises. :) Happy sailing!
