Smoking Policy on Carnival

It's amazing to me what you can find out... do you realize that most of the whiners about there cruise or life in general - like the woman from NY - are non-smokers? Why do you think casino's allow smoking - hell encourage it? People who don't smoke come in and play penny machines/have $20 to play and stop/whine there are not $1 blackjack tables/etc. A smoker comes with $1000 and stays to play and Gamble.

I take offense to this (not that you care) and disagree. Several Casinos in AC are mostly smoke free and have a very small smoking section. And in reference to the smokers gambling more, it depends on who you associate with.

I think smokers are in the minority! I do think they tend to have more addictive personalities, therefore the theory they gamble more.. who knows?

No one is ever going to agree on this subject... I jus wish everyone a great healthy cruise!

Don't forget about the "closet" smokers. I know many of those, especially since it has become so shameful to be a smoker.

I don't think the closets are big enough to smoke in!:D

Guess they will have to come out of the closet.

Very very true and very very funny (the coming out of the closet part). I know SO many closet smokers, it's an epidemic. That's why I don't believe only 20% of the population smokes, it has to be significantly more. I think it is more common for people to feel that they can attack smokers now. To be honest, my generation was born to smoking parents, we turned out to be just fine (cough cough).

I am astounded at how someone can say that the smell from perfume or the toxins that are emitted from everywhere - do you think that hot dog you get off the street doesn't emit vapors when the top is taken off - are not as bad or not the same as 2nd hand smoke. The population has been brain-washed and it actually helps major corporations that people are so worried about one problem that they ignore the fact that emissions from MANY sources cause major health problems. Yes I did say the smoke is a problem... but just one among many and not the worst by any stretch.

Just today I read a story about how in China the Olympics are bringing contestants in very late because the air is so BAD that it can harm them. Now that's something to be worried about.

I think only the smokers can stand the stink in the casino from all the smoke.:D

I think it's kind of funny that smokers in the work place have been relagated to the status of low-life druggies... or at least it looks that way as they are only allowed to smoke off in the distance, away from doorways... usually huddling behind a piller like a homeless person would to keep the cold off them... :D

SLC had a smoking area, last time I flew through there...if you can believe that!

I felt like I was walking into an opium den!

Ok, I'm tryint to figure out the correlation between smoking and gambling? Is the fact that the smoker comes with more money to lose just another indication of addiction? I'm confused how this works out, otherwise....I sure don't fit into that category. I don't smoke, but I love to gamble, maybe not with a grand to drop, but with plenty of money. Maybe I might spend more, but I simply CAN'T BREATHE when I'm in the casino! I like to take my mom, too, but she can't be in there very long because the smoke makes it hard for her to breathe, even with the aid of her oxygen tank...oh yeah, she was a smoker for 50 years and now has COPD...also known as emphysema...also known and the "slow death". I really don't care if you want to walk down that path, but please, just give me a little space where I can breathe freely in the casino....a non-smoking area would be lovely! And in the lounges, as well....is that really asking too much?

I DO CARE - very much - you have made me soooo sad! BTW where is AC? In lala land? Three towns near where I live (in the real world) have banned smoking in public areas in the last year... 30% or the bars/eateries have closed.. and the population has increased. Towns that have not banned smoking have had the businesses increase.

BTW - have I said I smoke? I may be one of the penny players (yeah)

Then may I ask this question? If the world is sooo bad and full of toxins (as you say) then why in the world would someone want to voluntarily suck more of it into their lungs?

And btw your analogy of non smokers gambling made me laugh out loud.

Because it is so far from the truth it is funny......or all my friends are just in the minority lol

Glad something can make you laugh - seems smoke has BLINDED (pun intended) you to life and the joys around you. ha

Arent there smoke free areas in Casinos? I know your question was rhetorical, but if there is not, where you gamble you should demand one.

I know in some casinos, not cruises, if you are at a table and tell the dealer you want it to be no smoking, in some cases they will accomodate you. I have see it done at Ballys.

Ok all..we all have a choice here. I am a smoker. The last cruise I went on, I felt there were more areas non smoking than smoking (just my thoughts as a smoker)...Do I have a choice on where and how to vacation? Yes, I do. My next trip planned is a caribbean land vacation...I enjoy cruising, but it has changed over the years, and personally, I just don't enjoy it as much as I used to. It is not only the smoking issue....alot of small issues that have to make me think if this is the vacation I prefer to take. Will the cruiselines miss my business..probably not..does that worry me? No..What is important to me is to take a vacation I will enjoy without having to worry about changing other peoples opinions or worrying about their opinions, as they won't have to worry about mine. These two sides will never agree..I think both have valid arguments, but really...I'm tired of arguing and will have a great time on my next vacation! Just my two cents.

Our state capital city banned smoking two years ago and that definitely has not been the case. The bars put in outdoor beer gardens and the smokers go outside when they want a smoke. In our city most of the restaurants have voluntarily gone non smoking. One of the most popular in town has seen business increase in the last year 30% since going no smoking.

I'm blinded from life and joys around me? Care to elaborate? No never mind you didn't answer my first question:rolleyes:

For the record smokers do not bother me in any way shape or form. Anyone is welcome to smoke on my balcony just don't blow it in my face. If you smoke fine but some of the justifications posted on here are just plain silly. It is a physical addiction plain and simple.

I agree

it is changing and i am not so sure for the better.. NOT even talking about the smoking/nonsmoking

Its just not what it was ..lets say 5yrs ago.. maybe because goods and services are just becoming so expensive.. but i have a feeling cruising for me will end when there is no place to smoke... pathetic maybe, but its my right too..hello i pay taxes.. lol

anyway these two sides will never meet... both have valid arguments..

i am the type of smoker that thinks of others.. perhaps if all smokers did it would have been such a big issue...

Going to go have a wonderful 7 days getting ready to CRUISE.

I will definately get flamed for this but who cares...lol...I do not smoke in the cabin. I only smoke in designated areas. I am a very considerate smoker. It is hard for me to smoke a cigarette on the balcony when the ship is going 20 knots. My hair is blowing in my face and the cigarette burns really fast but....all these people are saying that their balcony was ruined because the people next to them were smoking on the balcony and the smoke blew right at them. I find that hard to believe. Maybe there could be a problem when the ship is in port with the smoke. All they would have to do with me would politely ask me to work out a schedule with them. No one can complain about my smoking on the balcony, we always get the corner aft and with the ship moving forward so fast there is no way the smoke will travel to someone elses balcony. And then the people who complain that they walked by the cigar bar and smelled smoke...well im not even going to go there!

There was a wedding on board the Inspiration sometime on March 6th. On March 7th, I was sitting on deck talking with the bride, when a girlfriend came up to her with the news that "granny" had been caught smoking in her cabin by the cabin steward. Everybody looked horrified and TOOK OFF down to the cabin.

Turns out that Granny is hooked up to oxygen, and decided to light up anyways! I hear that the cabin steward nearly had a heart attack when he walked in to tidy up! Can you imagine this guy from god-knows-where with limited English trying to explain urgently to Granny that this wasn't a good idea?

Since we didn't end up with an explosion and dead at the bottom of the ocean, this struck us as funny.

Look on the bright side, if the ship starts to sink, we will make to the lifeboats first. Smokers will either be out of breath or stopping for a smoke. :D

I don't think that's fair to categorize smokers as better gamblers than non smokers. Non smokers can't sit at a black jack table because the smokers are all holding ciggarettes in front of the faces of the people next to them! It makes me nauseous!

They do have non smoking tables now, which is wonderful. Give me some aces, split-em and double down!
