· Carnival Splendor’s spa will be the largest and most extensive spa facility in our fleet. In addition to the gym and fitness area, the facility will feature a number of new features such as a Thalassotherapy pool, Thermal suite, indoor and outdoor relaxation areas, additional treatment rooms as well as staterooms and suites with direct access to the spa. Some of the facilities are capacity controlled and extra charges may apply.

2) What is the Thalassotherapy pool?

Thalasso is Greek for 'of the sea' and these pools have a special formulation ocean water rich with trace elements and vitamins. Gently heated to body temperature, the Thalassotherapy Pool alleviates arthritic pain, soothes sore muscles and offers relief for sport injuries.

The Thalassotherapy Pool has a series of hydro-jets specifically designed to work on a specific area of the body. You can relax on wide, ergonomic benches made of metal piping that are built into the side of the pool and float in the warm water.

Thalassotherapy pools are a fun way to detoxify and a great way to unwind and revitalize.

3) What is the "Thermal Suite"?

The thermal suite is an exclusive facility within the spa offering different areas for specific therapeutic needs. The benefits of the different areas are described below.

Laconium:

The body is so warmed up that after a short time it is ideally decontaminated by intensive perspiration. The circulation is stimulated, the elimination of metabolic waste accelerated and the body's own defenses are mobilized. The regular perspiration in the Laconium moreover helps to reduce stress over the long term. The heartbeat is stimulated and blood pressure regulated. The result is a feeling of freshness and deeper mental and physical relaxation. The time spent in the Laconium depends on individual preference but the purging effect already starts after 15 to 20 minutes.

In Roman times, sweat and purification baths had a relatively constant temperature. After twenty minutes, the sweat bath can be supplemented with a shower to stimulate the circulation and effectively support the purification process.

- Enhance your general well being

- Strengthen your immune system

- Reduce your stress

- Find your inner equilibrium

The Tepidarium has a preventive and healing effect and is an ideal way to relieve stress and regenerate the system for young and old alike. The Tepidarium is a rest zone comprising ergonomically shaped heated loungers that offer the benefits of radiant heat.

The pleasant room climate at temperatures of about 38°C or 100.4° F offers numerous benefits to health. To be emphasized in particular is the gentle strengthening of the immune system. The area is heated by the influx of steam. In ancient Roman times, the steam bath ("caldarium") was the heart of the installation. In our modern bathing landscapes, more and more people are becoming increasingly appreciative of the interaction of high humidity and radiant heat between these temperatures 40 - 50°C or 104 - 112° F.

The gentle care and regeneration of skin and hair, as well as relief of the respiratory organs, are among the greatest benefits of the caldarium. Using a caldarium also has a purifying effect on the whole body.

Natural herbal steam (sweet odors such as cinnamon, orange or apple) can additionally support the cleaning effect.

Similar to the Caldarium, with high humidity and radiant heat (40 – 50° C) along with the combination of steam and aromatherapy fragrances found in the aroma bath enhances the effect. The therapeutic effect of fragrances and aromas is increasingly becoming more important in modern regeneration medicine.

The ideal combination of steam and fragrances, which is found in the aroma bath, enhances the effect even more. Particularly for those suffering from respiratory ailments, it has been proven that the inhalation of lavender, myrrh or revitalizing eucalyptus is very beneficial for the lungs and respiratory organs. In addition calming essence of chamomile further enhances the process of mental relaxation.

Rasul® Bath: (Exclusive facility within the thermal suite)

A unique and special experience for every client. After a short shower, different medicinal earths are applied to the body in the Rasul. One begins to coat oneself with the various healing mud. Cozy warmth and low humidity quickly dries the mud on the skin. With several steam infusions, the room is slowly heated up, and as the humidity increases, the room fills with the aroma of herbs being steamed on the stove.

The mud liquefies on the skin and creates a tingling sensation. Finger bowls – with running water built into the arms of the seats – allow the client to keep the mud moist while rubbing on their skin. This removes dead skin cells. Supported by the massaging effect, the subcutaneous tissue is tightened; the muscular tone and metabolism are stimulated (charges apply)

- By a continuous rise in ambient temperature and humidity excessive overloading of the blood circulation is avoided.

I was disappointed about the age for the Thalassotherapy pool, I am travelling with my 15 year old daughter and I was hoping we could enjoy that together.

I know what you mean. My 14 yo DD was hoping to be able to use it as well, but she couldn't even if the age were lower than 16 since the exclusive access is only for the 1st/2nd passengers. That was disappointing to read. Wonder if they will come up with an access pass that can be purchased for the 3rd/4th passenger?

  • 1 year later...

I've booked one of the spa cabins listed above. Just to clarify, Does that mean I get "Spa privledges"?

The booking agent didn't know at time of booking...but it was actually just as cheap to book as an ocean view....so I figured, WHY NOT?

BTW...I'm in a balcony room on the Spa deck...if that matters in regard to the question....

Yeah! Just booked a Spa Balcony for $299pp for me and DH and $159 for DS on the 5/10 sailing. Can't wait to take advantage of the perks - especially since it will be kind of chilly outside:).
