bellagirl Posted March 19, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2008 Hi-don't confuse the two!!! We used Rome in limo and were very pleased. They really know how to deal with people. Jany is the lady you will speak with and she will arrange your driver. WE had Duman and he was awesome. We also used the services of Sarah for ST. Peter's BAsilica and she was very good as well. NIce,comfy van and wonderful conversation. It's a memory we will have forever! Enjoy your day in Rome! Shelly
smkozel Posted March 19, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2008 Which one does the best job for touring Rome. Any problems with either of them? Thanks for any help. I made reservations with Jany at Rome in Limo for this June and she couldn't have been any nicer. I had quotes that were a bit cheaper from Limo in Rome and All Around Italy but liked the prompt service I received from Rome in Limo.
Bsan1221 Posted March 19, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2008 I would go with Rome In Limo (http://www.romeinlimo.com/) Jany is great and she will answer all your emails quickly and she is just super sweet! Duman was our driver/guide and we had a great time with him. He took us to places that I am sure no other tours have gone to. His van was super clean and very well kept. He took us for lunch at a great Italian restaurant and then took us to get gellato (YUM!). It was like being with family. We really enjoyed him and were very pleased to have chosen him. You really can't go wrong! :D
JillSR Posted March 19, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2008 I agree with everyone else - we had a flawless experience with Rome in Limo. We were there a few months ago celebrating our 25th anniversary. We had Vincenzo who spoke perfect English, was a true gentleman, and extremely knowledgeable. It was raining on our day and Vincenzo did everything possible to keep us dry and still enjoy the sites. We got an amazing amount of things done in one day. It was perfect.:) Have a great trip! MsPurry123 Posted March 19, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2008 This company took care of my family of 7 as we spent a day touring Rome. I completely arranged everything in advance through email communication. They were wonderful from start to finish! They even allowed us to revise the standard tour to include things we wanted to see, and things we wanted to omit. Very very professional company. Upgradefairy4u Posted March 19, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2008 Rome In Limo is the best! Francesco was sent from heaven to show us the time of our lives. I can't say enough good things about Rome In Limo. We hated to say arrivederci , and can't wait to go back. Give Jany a call, you won't be dissappointed. Rare sandinmyshoes Posted March 19, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 19, 2008 I spent weeks researching and contacting the different tour operators throughout Italy for our Carnival cruise Oct. 2007. I looked into both Rome in Limo and Limo in Rome and found the responce time, service, vehicles and flexibility of the tours provided by Rome in Limo to be above what any of the other companies offered. The prices were very similar to other companies but the aboved mentioned points were what made my decision for me. I am so glad I went with Rome in Limo! From the moment Francesco picked us (my husband and myself) up at the airport, the two days of private tours of Rome, and until he dropped us off at the ship we couldn't have asked for a better experience. This was our first time in Rome and we felt so comfortable. Francesco was an excellent driver who speaks very clear English and drives in a safe manner. The company uses upper-end Mercedes Benz for their transportation and keep them clean and in good working order. Francesco made us feel like VIP's by driving us right up to the entrances and dropping us off and then picking us up in the same spot. We never had to wait and got to enjoy more of Rome this way. He even took us to real Italian pizzarias and restaurants to eat at off the regular tourist path so we could get an authenitic experience. Ask him to take you to the pizza place just outside the Vatican Walls - amazing! We also hired Julia as our private guide for one day. She is also with Rome in Limo. She rode around with us and would tell us additional information about what we were seeing and could escort us into the places of interest. She got us into the Colosseum in less than 10 minutes when the line for "regular" guests was well over an hour wait. She relays stories about each place in such a relevant and interesting way it wasn't overwhelming or boaring. She knew what we liked and catered toward that. She was really nice and also spoke clear English. I would highly recommend spending the extra money to get Julia as your private guide. If not for an entire day, at least for your time at the Vatican She is so worth the money and she brings the place alive with stories you have never heard. Both Julia and Francesco were extremely professional and personable at the same time. We had such an amazing adventure with them! The previous posters are right about Jany too. She's a dream. She stays on top of everything and has all the details taken care of for you so your time in Rome is as hassle free as possible. We also used Rome in Limo for our Naples (Pompeii, Amalfi Coast, Positano, and Sorrento) tour and the Livorno (Pisa and Florence) tour. These tours were just as fantastic as the one in Rome! The driver for Naples (I feel aweful, but I can't remember his name and he was wonderful) got us to Pomeii before anyone else and we had the place to ourselves for the first hour and a half! We enjoyed the sights with a private guide (Rosario) that brought the place alive for us. It was amazing and a little spooky considering we were the only people around amongst all the ruins with him telling vivid stories of the past inhabitants and what life was like for them. You can request specific drivers and guides with Jany ahead of time and she will do her best to arrange it for you. If you do the Livorno tour, you have to ask for Laura! She took us off the beaten path (at our request) through the Tuscan countryside for a longer more scenic route to Florence. She gave us the opportunity to stop at a small processing center that makes Extra Virgin Olive Oil on site. She is friends with the owner and he agreed to give us a full tour. We were there in Oct. so they were in the process of harvesting. Even if it's not harvest time, you can get the most amazing EVOO and other Italian treats in their gift shop. If you like Biscotti, you will be thrilled with theirs. I still crave it! We still had plenty of time in Florence even after our extra stop and sightseeing. It is of upmost importance that they get you back to your ship on time, so no worries here. They pay attention and find out if there is extra traffic or road problems and they avoid them. You couldn't ask for a more dependable company or a more outstanding experience than the one provided by Rome in Limo!!!! They can even recommend great hotels within your budget if you wish. They are a full service company that cares about each individual in your group. Speaking of groups, I went to the cruise critic roll call for my specific sailing and found others willing to join us on group tours (Naples and Livorno) which dropped the per person price significantly. I booked the tours with Rome in Limo and set a meeting place and time for the other people to meet my husband and I so we could all get off the ship together and go on our tour. It was a breeze! The prices were the same as the ones provided by Carnival, but we didn't have to cram into a bus with 40+ other people and wait on those who couldn't keep an eye on the time and didn't arrive back at the appointed time. Rome in Limo provided vans on our group tours that were plenty big enough for our group of 6 (+driver) to fit comfortably and we saw other groups of 8 they were working with who had even bigger Mercedes vans, so you don't feel cramped. Enjoy your trip! You can't go wrong with Rome in Limo!!!
Jim Avery Posted March 19, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2008 We too used Rome In Limo for Florence/Pisa from Livorno. The service was flawless and we learned much local lore from the driver. Fully recommend them. Jim.

ZZROX Posted March 20, 2008 #11 Share Posted March 20, 2008 We also used RomeInLimo for 3 port stops last summer. The driver's were wonderful! We were 9 people, they provided a Van for 15, in 2 of the Ports. ZZ
kit9172 Posted March 20, 2008 Author #12 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Thank you for all your replies. I booked with Janey at Rome in Limo's and requested either Duman or Francesco if at all possible. She said she would try to get us one of them. Kit

bellagirl Posted March 20, 2008 #14 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Yes, I used Euro traveller's cheques. It was not a problem at all. I just didn't want to carry that much cash around. They were available at our local CAA for no charge. Shelly

tikva02 Posted March 24, 2008 #17 Share Posted March 24, 2008 We used Rome in Limo for a four hour tour of Rome on the last day of our Med cruise on Crystal Serenity last May. Duman was our driver/tour guide and he was just wonderful! He showed us the main tourist sights as well as some off the beaten track places. It was my husband's first time in Rome, and we saw more and learned more with Duman in one day, than I had seen and learned on my previous five day trip to Rome many years ago!! We both highly recommend Rome in Limo and Duman!! Sam and Ellen Naples, Florida
PatfromPa Posted March 24, 2008 #18 Share Posted March 24, 2008 I have used Romeinlimo when I cruised the Mediterrean, and I had such a great experience that I am now going on the Freedom to the Mediterrean in June and I have booked this wonderful company again. The driver I had was Rudy and his knowledge of Rome and the history of everything was just so enlightening, we can't wait to go on this tour again! I highly recommend this company. Runs Posted March 24, 2008 #19 Share Posted March 24, 2008 My husband and I used Rome in Limo for a day and a half tour of Rome after a Med. cruise last November. All our e-mail correspondence was answered very quickly by Janey - and late at night Rome time. Duman picked us up at our hotel on time. He was a great driver and could find a parking space anywhere in Rome. Julia was our guide and she was wonderful. She had a great sense of humor and kept a close eye on my husband who was busy photographing everything in sight. Both Duman and Julia were extremely knowledgeble about Rome. Julia stood in line at the Vatican Museum for an hour and a half before Duman delivered us there. If we had tried to tour Rome on our own, we could not have seen/visited even half of the sights that Duman and Julia showed us. You can't go wrong with Rome in Limo. szdiver Posted March 24, 2008 #20 Share Posted March 24, 2008 ROMEINLIMO is the one to go with - friendly, knowledgible and competent drivers who speak English for us was great. We used them for both Rome and Florence/Pisa and saw more with them than the tour groups off the ship did. We have several buses already filling up for our upcoming cruise in 2009 already. That is how popular they are.....call them....you will not regret it!
nash7300 Posted March 24, 2008 #21 Share Posted March 24, 2008 We used RomeinLimo for 3 tours. If you book multiple tours they should give you a discount too. Very professional company! Our group was from both Canada and US so we paid in both Euro and USD travellers checks. We also had Duman who was as wonderful as everyone has stated, and Julia for our Vatican tour who was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Highly recommend them! Ricardo in Florence Carlos in Naples Donato for our Pompeii guide All wonderful! They made our cruise! :)
wintermom Posted March 24, 2008 #22 Share Posted March 24, 2008 I would like to book a private tour too in Rome and Napels, so do I need a driver + a tour guide? RomeinLimo sounds very nice but I was not sure about if the driver is the guide?
bellagirl Posted March 24, 2008 #23 Share Posted March 24, 2008 If I may, I'll try and answer your question. Whether you use a guide is really up to you. The driver cannot go into buildings, etc. with you to act as a guide. He or she can only inform you of things while in the car before and after. We had Duman as our driver(who was wonderful as everyone has said!) and we decided to hire a guide for St. Peter's Basilica. I'm really glad we did as it was a wonderful experience. Duman pulled right up to the church and Sarah was there with our tickets and took us through for a tour lasting about 2 hrs. The timing of our itinerary was just perfect. Duman dropped us at the Colosseum and gave us,I think,45 min-1 hr. to go through it on our own. This was sufficient and we didn't really need a guide for this. Had we gone further into Rome,I may have decided on a guide for such things as Pompeii, etc.,but unfortunately we only had a day in Italy. If ever we're lucky enough to return, we will definitely hire Duman again for our tour! All the best, Shelly
Bsan1221 Posted March 25, 2008 #24 Share Posted March 25, 2008 Where do you recommend to hire a licensed guide  Your tour company/ driver can recommend a licensed tour guide.
wintermom Posted March 25, 2008 #25 Share Posted March 25, 2008 Thanks Bellagirl, It sounds like a guide would be very helpful. I will try to figure out what parts of our tours we would need one. I think we will try to get a guide for pompeii for sure!
