Gecko7 Posted March 19, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2008 I am considering taken the Ecstasy 5-day and would like to get some feedback if anyone has sailed on her and this itinerary. Thanks, Gecko7:)
Gecko7 Posted March 19, 2008 Author #2 Share Posted March 19, 2008 So I'm guessing no one has sailed on the Ecstasy? Gecko7:rolleyes:
jahcruiser5 Posted March 19, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2008 Wow... you were able to wait a whole 30 minutes... no one replies and you give the eye roll. Patience! It's a virtue, or so I've been told. Did you stop here before posting? http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/getreviews.cfm?action=ship&ShipID=4 Good luck, - J ETA... try this link, also: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=543888&highlight=ecstasy

jae1969 Posted March 19, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2008 It was our first cruise. We loved it. The food was great. The 4 kids loved the mini golf. My dh loved the turkey club sandwiches. What more do you want to know? We went in August. The weather was great and the seas were flat.
lca0714 Posted March 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 20, 2008 We sailed on the Ecstasy 2/23/08 to 2/28/08. It was quite a change from our last cruise on the Conquest. Even though the Ecstasy is a little older and smaller ship, she is well preserved and easy to navigate. The shows were nothing special but still entertaining, especially the comedian. Bingo was a joke. Way over priced for the pay outs and number of games played at each set. I would skip Bingo. We did win a little in the casino though! Look for the "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" quarter slot. The itinerary was what we were looking for. There is always something to do in Cozumel. We did the Play Mia Beach Break. Nice beach, lunch buffet, and open bar. A really nice place. We wanted to do the Chichen Itza ruins from Progresso. This was a very long bus ride and the ruins site is covered with vendors. But, the ruins were awesome. Food was great, both dining room and buffet. Hot Dogs were excellent. Drinks were cold! This was our 10th cruise and still love all aspects of cruising. The captain was actually the highlight of the cruise. Captain Scala was very personable and even held a Q&A for about 45 minutes answering random questions about sailing and the ship. We live in Texas so may even do this one again! Hope you enjoy your cruise.

Gecko7 Posted March 20, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Great review, thanks for providing the link. We are in DFW and I'm liking the cost of driving rather than flying to another port. Gecko7:D
gr1634 Posted March 20, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Did Progreso and Coz last year. Ship was in great shape and we enjoyed the cruise a lot. Progreso was not our favorite place. Talked to some who went to the beach and they had a great time. We dids the Myan tour and it was true snoozer. We didn't see much else that looked like a lot of fun. I have seen comments on both sides so I guess it is all what you want it to be. For us if we never went back there it would be OK. Glad we had the chance to go at least once but I would not recommend it to anyone. Just our opinion.
Gecko7 Posted March 20, 2008 Author #10 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Which Myan tour did you do? Gecko7:confused:
gr1634 Posted March 20, 2008 #11 Share Posted March 20, 2008 As I remember it was called Myan Reality tour. Went to an old church downtown where some really cute kids did some traditional dances, "visited a cementary" why I have no clue, and drove to a Myan ladies home (very depressed). I guess Carnival pays her to allow folks to go through her home. Its pretty much a mud hut. Maybe I am just over sensitive about stuff like that but I found it very degrading. Did not even get off the bus. Also did some ruins that were kinda neat but not anywhere near the size and spectical I thought we were going to see. All in all not one of our favorite tours. Maybe someone else would like it - we didn't.

gr1634 Posted March 20, 2008 #13 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Here is the description from the Carnival excursions page. BTW we say zero flamingos on our trip :) Discover how the Mayan culture, customs, language and beliefs remain strong in the Yucatan Peninsula. Begin with a 35-minute transfer to a beautiful location with two natural lagoons. See the countless flamingos dive and play against the backdrop of the clear blue sky. Continue on to the ruins of Xcambo, an important city in the Mayan trade route. Explore this fascinating example of archaeology’s treasures with its untouched sites, fully restored pyramids and buildings still under reconstruction. Leave Xcambo for a visit to the town of Dzemul. See the modern day village where traditional Mayan palapas sit next to Spanish influenced buildings. Be guided through the town to the Catholic cathedral in the main square. Gain a newfound respect for this ancient civilization. Rest in the gardens and enjoy a complimentary snack. Return directly to the ship with the tour or choose the optional drop-off at the Progreso Marketplace. Explore the colorful stores and later return to the ship on your own. Captain Scala was very personable and even held a Q&A for about 45 minutes answering random questions about sailing and the ship. We live in Texas so may even do this one again! Hope you enjoy your cruise. He also does a "cigars with the Captain" on the Lido deck during the cruise!~ Better get in there quick, his contract is over the end of this year on the Ecstasy. Don't know where he'll go next...he's a wonderful person and loves his job!
Gecko7 Posted March 21, 2008 Author #15 Share Posted March 21, 2008 We are thinking about taking the kids on their first cruise. Ecstasy is within driving distance, so cost are lower. Thanks Gecko7:)
summergal Posted March 21, 2008 #16 Share Posted March 21, 2008 We were on Ecstacy in 2006. It had just come from the Katrina scene fully redone. What a great little ship. We loved everything about her. The bedding and mattresses were so comfortable. The only mistake we made was not booking the Merida Excursion through the ship. By the time we got to the square the bus was gone for the "do it yourself tour". I won't make that mistake again. We took my mom on the cruise and for an older person it was just the right size. The kids really enjoyed the freedom of Camp Carnival. My 8 year old can't wait to go back. Next year we are trying the Conquest.
