Thanks, Sandra I live here and cant afford to rent one! Campervans are very popular in Australia because of the vastness and big disstance between some towns. The reason the bond is so high is because people take them off the beaten track, and this can turn into a nightmare for local and overseas drivers alike,I know this as part of my brothers job is to pick up abandoned hire vehicals from remote areas, that have been towed to the nearest town usually damaged. aliflem Posted March 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Wicked Campers are very popular in Victoria at the moment. I'm not sure about the cost or bond though. Campervans can be very expensive when you add the costs of caravan parks and fuel to the rental and bonds. Usually cheaper to stay in cabins in caravan parks or motels (if you don't want to cook). You can hire a cheap but near new car from any of the major companies-excess is expensive but can be insured against through motoring organizations eg RACV, NRMA, etc Good Luck! aliflem
Rare cheznandy Posted March 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Hi Sandra, Heres a site where you can compare prices and different hire companies http://www.campervanaustralia.com.au/index.php as stated above, sometimes its easier and cheaper to hire a car and stay at Tourist parks, we have stayed at Big4 parks often and find them great, some are like lovely resorts with swimming pools, spas and restaurants www.big4.com.au We have found Thrifty car hire the cheapest, but in Australia we also have the usual Budget, Avis, Hertz, Europcar. Chez xx Good luck, let us know how you go:)

We also saw 4 of them broken down on the side of the road, so they will not be an option for us anytime soon.
steve1970 Posted March 24, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2008 standbycar.com.au they do relocation deals, from about $5 day. If you plan a little while ahead and wisely you can usually get from a to b and then back agiain, cheaply. Give it a go. Steve
