Recommendation for ocho rios - Bamboo Beach Club

Recommended Posts

We just got off the Freedom and as usual had a great cruise. This time we visited in Jamaica for the 1st time and instead of taking a ship tour, we decided to go off on our own. To our delight we discovered a place close to the pier called Bamboo Beach Club. At first we thought it was some kind of private club, but then we noticed passengers from another ship being escorted over there. Anyway, we bought tickets and went inside. A really friendly hostess gave us towels and helped us organize our things at some lounge chairs. Then she went and brought us cold mojitos - and they weren't watered down!! Her name was Tamara and she served us our whole stay. The food was good, the drinks fantastic, the atmosphere there was full of happy people (including the hosts/hostesses who seemed to love their work), there was a DJ, and also tons of performances by professional dancers and singers. We had such a good time just kicking back and enjoying the scene. When we got home we looked them up on the internet and found their website www.bamboobeachclub.com . We really felt we received a good value for the money. Just thought wanted to share our experience - If anyone wants to go somewhere on their own, this is a really nice way to spend the day!!

This sounds just wonderful! How far from where the ship docked was this Club? What type of food was served? We (dh, dd 11 & dd 13) will be there in November on Freedom. My youngest DD is bit of a picky eater, so that is a concern. We can't decide once in Ocho Rios if we should do a beach day or perhaps go tubing or even Dunn's River Falls. Thanks for the recommendation!

The Beach Club was about a three minute walk from the ship, which was great for us because we really didn't want to venture too far away from the port on our own. They served food and drinks all day long. They would bring food over on these small plates - they called them tapas - and you could take as many as you wanted. There was jerk chicken, sausages (which were good but tasted more like hotdogs), pasta with a really flavorful tomato sauce, maybe some jerk spices inside but not spicy (it was really good!), potato wedges, grilled vegetable kabobs, festivals (which are kind of like Jamaican style hush puppies - also really good), tomato & cucumber salad, fruits, and chocolate cake - I think I'm missing some things but there was such a variety that I can't really remember them all. Hopefully there's something your child will like - probably the "sausages" and pasta - they seem the most child friendly, oh, also the festivals and chocolate cake!

I also noticed on their website that they can take you from the Beach Club to the Dunns River Falls or to the Tubing. Anyway, hope this helps...

seven11--Thanks for details! It sounds delicious and I'm sure she could find something she would like. How did you find the beach area? How about the pool area? Clean restrooms? Again, thanks for any info! :)

The beach area was very clean. The bathrooms were also clean - they weren't anything luxurious, just typical beach bathrooms, but I didn't feel gross going inside and using the facilties. There was not a pool there, just strictly the beach and ocean. They also had a small gift shop where you could buy Jamaican souvenirs and even a mini outdoor spa where people were getting massages. I think the massages cost a little extra money, but I didn't have one so I'm not sure how much.

We were on the Freedom in January and we bought a day pass for the RIU in Ocho Rios. This resort was incredible. The pass was $80pp and it included use of all of the resort facilities, food and drink all day. The pools were fantastic with swimup bars and tiled loungers in the water, fountains. It was paradise. We liked it so much we are going to go back and stay for a week. It truly was a day in paradise.

This is our second cruise on RCI - we normally cruise on Carnival. We've been to Bamboo Beach Club and had a fantastic time. There were quite a few kids there when we went - it was a very entertaining experience!! However, since we've already been to the Beach Club, I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for Ocho Rios???

We were in Ocho Rios last Sept. & did a tour with Phil Lafayette.. Dunns River Falls & Island Tour.. he also dropped off some members of the tour at the River Tubing...we didn't do that but it looked like fun..
