choice of beaches

Hi,

I am sending my senior parents on the Carnival Legend in May.

They would like to go to a beach close to the port just for some sun soaking and bathing.

What suggestions do you have?

The ship docks at 7AM and leaves the port at 4pm. So they are just planning to go early in the morning.

I've heard there is on Seven Mile beach several beaches like Colony Beach, Sea Grape, and Public beach. How far are these from the port with a taxi? Also would it be safe for them to book this on their own by just hiring a taxi to bring them their and another to bring them back? Approximately how much will a taxi cab for 2 people be and what is the price for admission to the beaches? Do they need to rent chairs and an umbrella and how much could that be?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Maria

Grand Cayman is very safe, and they won't have any trouble just getting a taxi at the pier and then again at the beach to return them to the ship.

Most of the sections of Seven Mile Beach are about a $4-6 US taxi ride per person, each way. Taxis are mostly the oversized vans that hold about a dozen people, so they'll wait for a full taxi before leaving, so leave a bit of extra time for the return trip.

There are no admission charges for the beaches. Some hotels (like the Beach Club Colony) charge a fee for the use of their facilities, but you shouldn't be paying anything at either Sea Grape or Royal Palms. Umbrella and chair rentals are available at both those beaches, and usually cost $5-10 an item. Both beaches also have restrooms, and there's food/drink available for purchase.

There's a great webcam for Royal Palms available here - http://www.reefgrill.com - so you can see for yourself what the beach is like.

They would thoroughly enjoy Rum Point, and there's plenty of time to get there and have a nice relaxing time. Rum Point is not to be missed! It's wonderful. Check out some pictures of it on Google images.

And... it's totally FREE! Plus a great little grill there that makes some wonderful food and drinks.

Check it out!

However, Rum Point isn't somewhere you can get easily. They'd need to rent a car and drive the 45 minutes each way. (A taxi would cost $75 US each way, and they'd have to pre-arrange the return trip.) Depending on your parents' comfort level, they're probably much better off with just the five or ten minute taxi ride to Seven Mile Beach. It's close, it's easy, and the beach is just as nice (if not nicer).

Thanks for your suggestions!

They have decided to hop onto a taxi and head to Seven Miles.

They will feel more comfortable being close to the ship.

Any suggestion for their stop in Roatan, is it as safe, can they do the same thing...just hope on a cab and head to West Bay Beach?

Any help is appreciated.

Maria
