Purchasing Next Cruise Coupon On Board

Help! I can't find the answer to this on the NCL website.

I'm not sure of the actual term to use, but I understand I can purchase some kind of coupon or something on my upcoming NCL cruise (:D ) for an new cruise to be decided. For this cost of $250, I get AN ADDITIONAL $100 onboard credit on my current cruise.

1. Do I understand this correctly? I get $250 credit on the new cruise, so I actually have $350 benefit?

2. Must I make my reservation through NCL when I choose my new cruise? or can I search for a better deal through an on-line travel agency?

Thanks for your help.

Nope, your understanding is wrong. :o I can't remember all the details though. :D

We bought one certificate in December. For $250, you get $100 credit towards the cruise you are on (when you purchased the cert). The $250 will be your deposit for your next cruise (which can be booked thru anyone). There will not be any additional deposit due (although, maybe suites, etc. have additional deposit $ due).

The cruise must be booked within 1 year and you have to cruise within 30 months of purchase.

Here's NCL's page http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPages.html?pageId=CruiseRewards

in your stateroom you will find a coupon book. One of the pages is the $250 cruise deposit you put down on the cruise to be booked within the next year. They award you $100 OBC immediately to use on the cruise. Buy 2 for $500 deposit for 2 cruises & get $200 OBC immediately.

My husband & I are buying 2, since we know the high airfare to get to London to sail from Dover in September, so we will do a Back 2 Back cruise being at sea for 2 weeks to get our money's worth. This counted as 2 cruises so we need 2 deposits for it.

So I hope I answered that question for you, of course if the coupon book isn't there for some reason, just visit the Purser's desk for one.

Not quite. You get $100 credit on the cruise that you're on when you buy the Cruise Credit. If you buy 2, then you get $200 credit on that cruise ( I did this) up to 4 pp, I think. What it allows you to do is reserve a cruise for $250, instead of the regular deposit. On our cruise in November, our deposit would have been $400pp, $800 total, but because I got a cruise certificate, I was able to book this cruise for $250. The cruise price is the same, I'm just not out $800 up front. The $250 hold the whole cabin, regardless of the number of people in it. This can prevent you from having a big chunk of money tied up in a cruise, especially if you have to cancel.

This, I'm not sure about. I made my reservation through NCL, then transfered it to my TA.

The offer on the Star wasn't in any coupon book. There was a "presentation" and announcements were made (via PA system and the Freestyle Daily). At the presentation, single sheets of papers were given out. All you had to do was fill out the paper and return it. Also, the PCC's had a table setup in the atruim where you could talk to them and get the form.

so yes, you can use NCL, Casinos at Sea or a travel agent. $250 deposit with a $100 OBC gift.

You can book your cruise with anysite, TA, or NCL. Just give them your certificate #. I just booked with an online site and used the coupon with no problem. If you decide to cancell that trip and choose another the deposit goes with it.

On our recent Sun cruise, there wasn't a coupon book either. There was a desk set up on one of the decks and you just stopped by and purchased it.

It does sound a little confusing, but look at it like this.

You are on a cruise and your on board account (the money you've spent on this cruise) is $500. You purchase the future cruise and they charge it to your onboard account, making the total due now $750.00. They then give your a $100 credit to your account, making the total now due $650.00. So, you really only paid $150 towards the future cruise. But when you book that future cruise, your certificate is worth a $250 credit towards that cruise. Bottom line: You save $100.

And yes, you can book that future cruise with any TA you'd like. Just tell them you have the cruise reward certificate.

In addition, it's nice to be able to use that certificate as the deposit to book the entire cabin without having to pay $250 per person as the deposit.

It's my understanding that if you cancel your booking, they keep the $100 they advanced, out of the deposit. Can someone clarify this? Thanks

If you cancel one cruise booked with the Cruise Reward program, it is credited to you and you can book again using the Cruise Reward. We did it this last year. :)

From NCL.com

To cancel a reservation made with a Freestyle Cruise Rewards Deposit, you must submit the cancellation in writing and it must be received by NCL in accordance with NCL cancellation policies and procedures. The Freestyle Cruise Rewards Deposit will be reissued minus any cancellation fees, but will retain its original expiration date. If you cancel a reservation made with a Freestyle Cruise Rewards Deposit after its expiration date, it will be forfeited. You are expected to have appropriate travel documentation. Cancellations due to lack of appropriate travel documentation (e.g., improper or expired visas or passports, etc.) will incur applicable cancellations fees.

I cancelled our cruise with my PCC and rebooked with her later. She took care of all necessary information pertaining to the Cruise Reward certificate. ;)

My husband and I sat there on the Jewel thinking about this. I have seen NCL run specials (at least the agent I've used has done this) that only required a $75 deposit pp. I didn't want to be locked in to NCL for a trip 30 months from now. Yes, we would be waiting for 30 months (Sept '10--that's when the last kid goes to college--making it 3 in there at once!).

I think if you are someone who sails a lot, you know you are going soon, and are 100% committed to NCL, then it's great. I usually like to plan my cruises based on the itinerary and the dates I need. If NCL doesn't earn my business next time, then I'd be out that money. I'm an equal opportunity cruiser! And besides, I really didn't need to give them more of my money!!

Why would you transfer it to a TA once you've done all the work?

There is NO coupon book in the room.

There are tons of announcements about it and little "seminars". They have a flyer / form that you fill out and leave for the Future Cruise Consultant. They process it and then it will be delivered to your room with the instructions for having it processed when you decide to book.

You can use any travel agent that you want with 12 months to book and 30 months to sail.

I do this. I decide what cruise I want to take and get my pricing. I am particular about the room that I want so I call NCL and make sure that it is available. If it is, then I ask them to hold the reservation. I am usually doing this in the evenings after my TA has gone home for the night. The next day I call my TA and give him my reservation # and he takes care of it from there.

The reason that I do this is because before my first cruise there happened to be a time change for sailing on embarkation day. The ship was leaving 1 hour EARLIER. Evidently NCL did not contact the customers that booked directly with them, however, they contacted the TA's that had booked customers to let them know of the time change and the TA's called the customers. So, some of the people that were not notified were left standing on the Pier.

I usually get to the pier early enough, but, I would rather know that any important information that I would need to know has a better chance of getting to me from my TA who has my home, office and 3 cell #'s to get in touch with me.

AND he make a nice commission. What could be better than that. On our first cruise he was actually on that sailing and threw us a very nice private cocktail party in Spinnakers.

We do sail a lot, but usually on Royal Caribbean. But we can drive to Charleston, and although the Majesty is not my favorite ship, it is a very affordable way to get to Bermuda ($399 in March). So we are pretty settled on that date and itinerary.

I was told about it by Latonya at Casinos at Sea. She was giving me info on all the questions we had posted here. So maybe this is coming soon. She doesn't seem to be a person with bad info.

I have scans of the handouts that were given out last summer on the Pearl if anybody wants to e-mail me at my link below. You do need to e-mail me fairly quick because I will be off-line starting next Wednesday.
