Embarkation at night

We're sailing in May with a 10 pm embarkation. What can we expect? I hope a bit more than everyone trying to crowd in to karaoke and the pizza line! I would love to hear from someone who has sailed late to know if we can look forward to a fun first night! Thanks!

Am I correct in assuming you're sailing from San Juan on the Destiny? (That's the only ship I know of that departs at 10PM. There may be others, I haven't researched)

Anyway, when we sailed out of San Juan we boarded the ship in the afternoon, walked around, had dinner, unpacked (not necessarily always in that order). Then when we were pulling out of port, the band was playing on the Lido Deck where there were a lot of people talking, dancing and just having a fun time.

I don't recall any horribly long lines that night. When we boarded the ship we were given a card asking us to have dinner in a certain dining room at a certain seating. We were taken to a table, but not necessarily the table we were assigned for dinner for the week.

Hope this helps.

not so hard to imagine really... for regular sailings, they leave port around 4:30 or 5 pm... and you can normally get onboard before noon... (at least in my experience!)

so for a 10pm sailing, you could possilby board around 5pm... right??

In San Juan on the Destiney , they started boarding 2 P.M ..

We did that last summer. We boarded, got off and went shopping in San Juan then returned 5 pm for dinner and they had a show at 9 pm. You will do Muster before you depart arount 7 or 8 pm

Hi SunniDay,

We're going on the same trip as you. Attached is the boarding info from the Port of Charleston. We can get on at 4 PM but I have heard it usually starts earlier. I believe that the first night is open seating for dinner. Other than the casino, most of the normal cruise schedule should be available. Our Roll Call is here if you're interested. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=595018

We took that cruise a few years back and were on the ship around noon. The ship arrives with no passengers on board so there is no disembarkation and the ship is ready to go when it gets there. Your dining assignment is on your sail and sign card and regular dinner hours applied to the first night as well. Lunch is available when you board on the lido deck. Why the ship leaves so late I don't know but it was cool sailing out at night.

We are sailing on the Victory out of Charleston in May. If you board the ship around noon is there any trouble with parking and luggage that early?

Also is there anything happening on the ship in the afternoon? After you board the ship can you get back off to tour Charleston?
