Kwynot Posted April 10, 2008 #26 Share Posted April 10, 2008 Thanks for your postings. They are amusing. All posts also get me excited for my trip in December:p I'm also concerned about the possible charges for the Blue Lagoon. I have a husband who is a night-time nosher and the restaurant is on our deck. Also, what is this about giving charms to the crew? Enjoy the rest of your trip! Cosmopolitan Posted April 10, 2008 #27 Share Posted April 10, 2008 Jackie, enjoying your review...thanks for taking the time to post. We were on the Gem a few months ago and no charge for Tequila. Not sure that restaurant merits a surcharge:confused: Blue Lagoon, it will be a shame if they start charging as that seems to be a favorite of the young teens during the day and evening. They could be running up quite of bill! For a "cooked to order" burger, fries, wursts, etc., head to Topsiders Grill(?) Not sure I remember the name correctly, not at the pool level but 1/2 deck above the pool. You have to place your own order for food at the counter but it is "cooked to order" and the barstaff up there are great and you are overlooking the pool from the tables up there.:) We always request a top-sheet for our bed as soon as we arrive in our suite. Several years ago, they were in the OS but not the past few years. I agree with the yuk factor of TA's in your suite. The same happened to us on the Jewel and I was not happy. Entrance should not be permitted once the cabin/restroom:eek: has been cleaned!!! Another reason for "lysol" wipes:D Prem is a wonderful HD. Do not hesitate to call him if you have any concerns. And, to all of you LUCKY cruisers who will soon be boarding the Gem - Jackie is a great resource. She is accurate and honest. Wishing you all a wonderful cruise. Jackie, wishing you calm seas on your return home. Enjoy every minute:)

Baitman19 Posted April 10, 2008 #32 Share Posted April 10, 2008 Hi Jackie, I see you're having fun. Yes, things are different on the Gem than on the Dawn. We also thought some of the suites were a little smaller than on the Dawn. We thought the GV was laid out better on the Gem than on the Dawn. Tell Armando to make you his Sexy Alligator Martini. It is really good. We're sailing the Dawn next week for a 2-day, then it's the Dawn for Bermuda in October. If you run into Prem, tell him hi from Diane & Monty and please thank him for his help with our next weeks cruise. Yes, the Courtyard is nice. I can see why you couldn't find it. Try the Crab Cakes Eggs Benedict in Cagney's. Have a great cruise. I know you will!!!!!!!!! Happy Cruising, Monty
hazeleyes Posted April 10, 2008 #33 Share Posted April 10, 2008 Do you know what date they finish filming the tv show what not to wear? Was wondering if they will still be there on our sailing. Thanks. Hope your having a great time. Oh i have one more question. Can you tell us what the prices are for the day use of the spa area. Not to get any treatments, im refering to using the pools, hot tubs, etc in that area. Can you tell us what it includes for that price. All help is greatly appreciated Jackie. Do they have a weekly price as well? Thanks again.
lastingtouch Posted April 10, 2008 #34 Share Posted April 10, 2008 Great review Jackie! It brings us right back on the ship. :D Enjoy the rest of your cruise. If you get to see Ryan (de Butler!) Tell him Monty & Diane say hi. ;)

Host Kewlguy Posted April 10, 2008 #36 Share Posted April 10, 2008 ALL OVER CC???? How many posts are there to this thread????? Well I know for a fact this "rumor" is a hot topic on our April 19th Gem roll call. I would think a CC veteran like yourself would be aware of the vast reach this website has. Any information posted on here is read by thousands of pairs of eyes. Not by just those who post. C'mon now, you know that.
Aloha Gal Posted April 10, 2008 #37 Share Posted April 10, 2008 Jackie, am so enjoying your review - appreciate you taking the time to do it. I love What Not to Wear! Have you seen Clinton and Stacey? Would love to know when that segment will be aired. Continue to enjoy your cruise! Aloha

coka Posted April 12, 2008 #39 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Hi Jackie! I hope you are enjoying your last few evenings on the Gem. Thank you for posting live! I chuckle that they are taping "What not to wear" program. Although I love the NCL marketing strategy (how many people watch the show and will see the beautiful ship in the background) yet scratch my head because of freestyle dress and its promotion of wearing 'whatever.' Enjoy the rest of your cruise! coka
newmexicoNita Posted April 12, 2008 #40 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Thanks for posting, Jackie! I also wouldn't be happy finding strangers in my cabin after it had been cleaned. I'm not Monk, but try to be careful about these things. That's interesting about not having menus. Did you find out why, yet? A charge for Blue Lagoon? Geez, that one takes the cake. I can understand the other two restaurants, but charging in Blue Lagoon doesn't make sense. Enjoy the rest of your cruise. Hope the casino is good to you.:) I too would be very disappointed if they add a sur charge to Blue Lagoon, let's hope this in rumor. I don't always beleive what the crew says; I have had to many experiences with them saying things that are not quite right. If they do add a charge they will be copying RCI. Jackie, thanks so much for your postings and now that I read on, I see the Blue Lagoon charge could be simply rumor. Again, thanks for taking time to fill us in on what is happening. newmexicoNita Posted April 12, 2008 #41 Share Posted April 12, 2008 What is the charge for Blue Lagoon? What the heck do they expect people to eat 24 hours? Room Service? You still have to tip them as it is....so no matter what you have to put out money. This is ridiculous.jThere is no charge unless I read the OPs comments wrong. A crew member said NCL may add a charge. As for tipping room service, you do not have to tip, but anyone who thinks this is an extra charge is plain cheap. Have you ever ordered room service at a hotel? Normally there is an 18% gratuity added plus, in some cases an extra $2.00. A tip isn't a charge. Maybe it is time for those who can't accept these changes that many lines are added to start pricing All inclusives. Nita
zebster15 Posted April 12, 2008 #42 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Just off the Gem today, 4/12. Prem told us the the M&G that by the end of the month there would be only 4 free places to eat. None of can remember if the Blue Lagoon was one of the 4. The "What Not TO Wear" show will air on 7/10, or so they said at the final reveal. Clinton was not there, just Stacey, Nick and Carmondy. It was a bit inconvientent with the filming, IMHO. The spa became difficult to access, etc. Off to unpack and check the mail, and get the updates on Big Brother!!! The four places are probably the two main Dining Rooms, the buffet and the Blue Lagoon. Cause they do not count the room service, do they? Did you notice any changes in the dining room menus? Any lobster? Any "always available" printed on the menu? Thanks a lot, and I hope you had a great, relaxing, week.

angeljt Posted April 13, 2008 Author #46 Share Posted April 13, 2008 Thanks to all of you who posted the nice comments. DH spoke to Prem again this morning and they were considering the charge in the Blue Lagoon, but they have decided against it. They discussed a bit more than that, but I'll have to catch up later. We're spending the next couple of days in CT with friends, but I will try to post when I can. I hope I can answer most of your questions and will reply to all as soon as possible. I did not hear about the Blue Lagoon from a crew member!!! I don't know where that came from? I'll have to go back and read my posts again when we get home. It was from about as high up as you can get on an NCL ship. When did I ever say it wasn't from an employee??? I said it was not from a CC (Cruise Critic) member. We had a fantastic week with perfect weather and calm seas. We loved the Gem, the staff and the crew. Don't worry, there will be plenty of very good food to eat in the main dining rooms, Garden Cafe, poolside BBQ, Great Outdoors, and Topsiders. Jackie NO CHARGE in the Blue Lagoon!!! :D:D:D

atlantic ocean Posted April 13, 2008 #50 Share Posted April 13, 2008 Charged us $75.00 per person (or $20.00 per day) for the whole week. Included main hot tub pool, very invigorating. Hot tub, heated tile lounge chairs, cushioned lounge chairs with a beautiful view, beautiful sauna (glass enclosed/great view) steam room, showers, lockers, robes, even two single person hot tubs in both the ladies room and mens room. Plenty of towels, ice water, hot teas, oranges. Just a quiet pleasant time when ever I went, *5 times. Any other questions, just email me.
