Review Voyager 3/30 - 4/6

Recommended Posts

Arrival: Well, this was pretty painless. We got there pretty early and only had to wait about 30 minutes to board the ship. Check in was a breeze and everything was super smooth. The people in Galveston were also really helpful.

Boarding: Obviously remarkable. That first breath you take in of the cruise ship smell. It bring back all the memories of your previous cruises. Looking around and being use to the smaller ships (Rhapsody and Splendour) it seemed like a city. The best part about this I was really intimidated because I like the smaller ships and I was used to them and their layout. Truth be told, the layouts were very similar. It was just a way bigger version of what I was used to :-)

Days at sea: These were especially fun. I just lounged on the smoker side of the pool deck and drank all my long beach iced teas. I was traveling with my wife and 2 friends and well. If you need to know specifics, it was near the windjammer smoker side (As I do smoke and I get awfully hungry when I drink) :-D I also because very well known as I am a loud but fun drunk. All the bar tenders (Schooner, Casino, Pool bar and aqauarium bar) knew me and shook my hand everytime I came back. Now dont get me wrong, I am not an obnoxious drunk, I just love to bring a smile to peoples day thats all. Also, my friend fell in love with a bar tender who was working at the aquarium bar at the time. Her name is Irena and she was from Greece. She willingly gave him her phone number but had specific instructions not to call till after june 4th. I guess thats when her contract was up for the time. I know fraternizing is not allowed but she must have liked him. Casino was HUGE! I didn't win of course, it was all the old people :-( (No offense to the older cruisers, you guys just have the best of luck though). Windjammer was awesome of course. Honey stung being my favorite for sure.. I did come across a place called the "island grill". I did not know about this place and it was AMAZING as well! Sushi galore, bunch of favorites. The one thing I was minorly disappointed about was the late night hamburger, hotdog buffet thing I was used to on the rhapsody and slendour. Johnny rockets def. made up for this though.

Portofinos: Im sorry to everyone that loved this, but I found this to be a huge waste of money. They had some pretty amazing desert, but the food was not great. I had the tiger shrimp. I was expecting the tiger shrimp like the dining room, but to my disappointment, they were puny and not tasteful. Wondferful thing though, my waiter offered me a different choice of entree so I got the skewer with lobster tail, scallops and some other stuff on it and it was tastey! Thank god RCI cares about its guests.

Jamaica: So this one kinda sucked... We wanted to do the chukka ATV again, but didnt book at 2:30 sharp and missed out. The day before jamaica we found a glassbottom boat tour for 35.00 a person. Didnt seem to bad. I remember seeing some stuff on RCTV about it and it looked fun. When we started disembarking at Jamaica, it was crowded. There were people everywhere and I didnt know you couldn't walk from the dock so I felt trapped there a bit. About an hour later, we found our tour guy and funny thing is, I was waiting for our bus for our excursion but we started walking. We walked down the road and just to the right at this little dock. We loaded on to the dock and waited anxiously for our boat to arrive. I then see this liitle bass fishing boat looking thing pull up and and looked an my wife and joked that it was our boat.....Little did I know it actually was. It was the tiniest thing I had ever seen. We all boarded and it seemed like it was gonna sink. We had these little viewing ports at the bottom of our feet that we like 1 and a half feet by 2. It took about 45 minutes to get to our destination but after that it was pretty cool. The diver even took my underwater camera and took pictures for me. All and all it was a fairly good time. We caught a cab and went to Margaritaville after that. It was alot of fun except when I went to use the bathroom, there was a lady standing in the watching all the men?? It was kind of akward. I guess its the Jamaican style. Did a little bit of shopping and went back to the ship.

Grand Cayman: I could not wait to get here. I immediately went to seven mile beach. It get more and more beautiful every year. I ripped off my shirt, grabbed the snorkel and dove in. We were out quite a ways. We saw a bunch of fish and stuff. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of a ray but didnt. We took lots of pictures and it was such a good time. I buried my dogs favorite ball in the sand next to the service shack and the public entrance. He died 2 days prior till I left and I wanted him to go somewhere beautiful. After that we went to Neptunes. Its a little restaraunt thats located about a block from the public entrance. Its REALLY expensive but well worth it. I had shrimp and lobster quesidillas. They were AMAZING! Also their strawberry daquires were awesome as well. From there we caught a cab ride back to the terminal and went shopping downtown for a bit. Then caught the tender back to the ship and took a huge nap!

Cozumel: I always love cozumel. I guess it fun shutting down all the people that try to rip you off. Example: You get off the ship and the guy that offers you the scooters says for 45 dollars, he'll give you a scooter for the day. Doesnt seem to bad, but when you go down the street, they are 15 :-D So you tel lhim Im not paying 45 dollars for a scooter and he says you wont find a better deal. As you walk away he harasses you more asking how much you want to pay... That an obvious answer but oh well... I guess its logic you just say a lower number. You tell them to match 15 and then they give you the get lost look. Anyways... So I met up with a friend that lives down there and he took us all around Cozumel. we did alot of shopping, sightseeing and mingled with the natives for a bit. We grabbed a bite to eat at the "smallest hard rock cafe in the world". The food was excellent. I got this sampler platter and my wife got this crazy mac and cheese and it was fantastic. Then I went to this tequila outlet where the tried to sell me all this tequila and make me try alot of it to. It wasnt that great and highly overpriced. One thing I did notice was that the shops are getting alot more expenisve and haggling is getting alot harder to do because they know you got the money. I still did it non the less and got what I wanted for what I wanted to pay.

More ship stuff: Man, one thing I was disappointed with ice rink. Not the size or anything... But that it was only open ONE day. I tried to go that ONE day and there was a line like nobodies business. One AWESOME thing I recommend EVERYONE trying is the rock wall. Once you get to the top its absolutley gorgeous! It was alot of fun. Dinner time was awesome. I know Im gonna get alot of crap for this and all because I see people writting about this occasionaly, but I had to break my lobster tail record from last year. I made it to 7 with my waitress offering more. Thats right, 7 lobster tails in one sitting. I had Alicia BTW from Trinidad if anyone has ever had her. She was simply amazing at everything she did. Moving onto Johnny Rockets. That place was created by jesus himself. You could even order egg on your burger. I loved the Smokehouse burger with egg. OH, and all the fried and onion rings galore. they kept piling them on. Also a great part of it was you could take leftovers back to the room. We got them to do their dance to and caught that on tape. It was alot of fun.

Overview: All and all, the ship was the best and so were the people. It was everything I imagined and much much more! I highly suggest taking a bigger ship. If your worried about being taken care of the same, the pay about 3 times more attention to everything. The ship was always cleaned and something was always being painted. The room was great and to take it down to detail, there was always something on TV. If you have any further questions or anything go ahead and just post them. Also you may notice I left out the disembarkation portion out.... That because it was just a big mess all together. I hope this helps. Also I will be posting pictures and a link to download my video I made of my cruise on voyager. That will be about a month from now :-D

Aric,

Thanks for writing the reveiw. Love hearing about the Voyager. I have just another week and a half before I will be aboard.

I do have a question...what type of cabin did you have? Balcony, Oceanview, etc.? Did you hear much noise from your neighbors..how sound proof are the cabin?

I appreciate you taking the time to answer...

I had a cheapy inside stateroom. It was shared by 4 of us and you think it would be bad but it wasnt. No noise was heard. It was so quiet, the ship barely rocks at all and it was so peaceful. I could sleep better there than my quiet empty house. The balcony were right across from me and i assume it was the same. The hallways are never occupied so your good to go!

I have to agree with his statement. It was quiet and i slept better then i did at home. No noise or anything from the other rooms to bother you so it was a peaceful place to be.
