No smokers have cancelled on my cruise :(

Just wondering if any smokers out there are considering using the new Celebrity regulation as a motivation to quit smoking? It's not just the new Celebrity regs but more and more restaurants, bars, and public buildings worldwide that are implementing restrictions. With the newer medications to assist the process, maybe it's getting too difficult to continue.

I have no problem with smoking being prohibited on balconies. But in my cabin is another matter. I don't feel my cigarette smoke is that intrusive as to wreck someone else's cruise and it should be no one's business if I prefer to indulge a bit during the little bit of time I am even in that cabin.

Just wanted to give a non-smoker's point of view. I say this with all due respect, truly.

But I have to disagree with you about smoking in your cabin. For those that do not smoke, the smell of smoke in a room/cabin after a smoker has occupied it for a week can be overpowering and offensive. The smell gets into the carpet, draperies and bedding. I know they try to disinfect and deodorize the rooms between passengers, but it doesn't always take the smokey smell away. I am not allergic to the smell, but I do dislike it.

I know you paid for your room and want to smoke in it...........but I also paid for the same room and don't want to spend a week in a room that smells like an ashtray.

So, what is the answer? I don't know, but my thoughts are that they should allow smoking on certain floors, and keep other floors non-smoking (like they do in some hotels) . That way, the entire floor would be smoke-free, instead of something like having the port side smoking & starboard side non-smoking on all the decks. Then, the smokers can get the same cabins that have been smoked in before, & the non-smokers can get a totally fresh-smelling room. Seems easy to me! ;)

When I go to a restaurant, bar or public building I am aware ahead of time what the restrictions are. When I book a cruise I know what the restrictions are. For Celebrity to change the rules after accepting bookings I think is wrong....perhaps they should have implemented this in the spring with the new schedules when noone had yet booked. The new meds do not work for everyone.....believe me, I have seen it first hand in many instances.

Well said Catnip. Our last room had definitely had smokers in it before us. I thought at one time that smokers were only allowed on the port side so I always booked rooms on the starboard side but then quickly realized that was only for the public areas not staterooms. Frankly I don't care if they ban smoking or not, it affected me little with the exceptions of the room and one day a guy dumped his ashes on my head and was not on the port side of the ship. And we also never went to the casino either, I guess thats just money saved anyway! What I would like to see is rooms designated smoking or non like hotels.

Thank you. It is a shame that more people are not as tolerant as you. I have never smoked in a cabin and have always followed the rules on smoking whether on a ship or in any other public venue. It will be interesting to see how this new policy plays out over the first six months to a year. If it has the same impact as it has had on pubs in the UK, we may see a more moderate policy at some point in the future.

I have just started a thread entitled 'which cruise lines allow you to smoke in cabin and on balconies. I listed the cruise lines and their smoking policies..

Celebrity may have made a mistake on this one. Smokers do have choices, but then again, so do non smokers.
