btobey Posted April 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2008 I heard there's a real competition for these on HAL ships. It sounds like fun--please tell me more! :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2008 Ot varies from ship to ship as to how you can earn the dam dollors. Sometimes you get them for participating in pool games, trivia contests, golf putting and golf chipping. On our recent Veendam cruises, they gave dam dollars for walk-a-mile in the morning at a certain time. Just check your daily program and look for a special symbol in front of activities -- those are the ones where you can earn dam dollars. Some days there are a punch of activities - some days -- not many. And some times they are offered while in port and you are off the ship!! Then on the last full day of the cruise, you can redeem your dam dollars for mugs, beach towels, caps, t-shirts, sweat shirts, etc.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2008 Just to give you an idea of how many dam dollars you will need: 7 day Veendam cruise: 10 dam dollars - Luggage Tag 12 dam dollars - Mug 15 dam dollars - Water Bottle 25 dam dollars - Baseball Cap 30 dam dollars - T-shirt 35 dam dollars - Sweatshirts 35 dam dollars - Beach Towel 45 dam dollars - Travel Bag 14 day Veendam cruise: 10 dam dollars - Luggage Tag 12 dam dollars - Mug 15 dam dollars - Water Bottle 30 dam dollars - Baseball Cap 30 dam dollars - T-shirt 40 dam dollars - Beach Towel 40 dam dollars - Sweatshirt 50 dam dollars - Luggage Bag As you can see -- they change the amount of dam dollars on some of the items depending on the length of the cruise. Originally when this program began, there weren't as many items available to buy. This list does vary by ship.

Comptech Posted April 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2008 KK, I was on the Veendam for the April 6th sailing. Did you happen to see Mama_lou? She was amazing, she looked like a little bag lady and was pushing around a little cart, but it was filled with stuffed animals for the children ect... I heard she has over 4000 days with HAL, thats almost 11 years aboard.......
