Does anyone know how you become a VIP? I have been on 7 cruises and I am wondering if there is something I need to initiate or does the cruise line just take care of it?

Each cruiseline has a different program to reward past passengers. On Carnival, you become a VIP/platinum passenger on your tenth cruise, or if you book a suite. EM

The only VIP's I've ever heard lauded on any of the twenty plus cruises we have taken are the folks who have had fifty or more cruises on a single line. I remember when everyone would stand and cheer when a passenger had cruised the same line ten times. We have met more than a few cruisers who have taken over 100 cruises.

On a few select lines you can earn a free cruise just by forking over your $$$ a bunch of times.

Be sure you sign up for each cruise lines loyalty program when you cruise. Perhaps someday you will get to stand up at the loyalty cocktail party and be recognized as their primo sailor. Good luck

depends...each line has their own seperate loyalty program...so if your cruises have all been with one line then you should have some sort of repeat status...depending on the number of cruises...but if you have rotated with many lines then you may not have much built up

We immediately achieved VIP status upon joining the Carnival Vacation Club on our first Glory cruise in 2005. On ALL of the lines owned by Carnival, it affords us priority embarkation, disembakation, priority on limited excursions, priority dinner arrangements & reservations in the supper club, a welcome aboard gift, and a CVC cocktail party. And probably a couple of other perks I'm forgetting lol :p. But frankly I'm just happy about the embarkation thingy.:D

We have been on eight cruises and six have been with the same cruise line. We book penthouse suites and that always qualifies us for VIP. It's not that VIP is so important to us, but that we like a larger cabin as we spend alot of time in them and like to have parties---so enjoy the Butler service ect.

I think the VIP status is more of a perception thing. You do get additional benefits with suites and more benefits with more cruises with different levels.

 

To me the benefits really aren't that big of a deal, some are nice but I really don't care about the others.

 

As to the taking care of the REAL VIP's, it takes a ton (more than I'll take in a lifetime) of cruises and I think those people are pampered pretty well.

Are you actually referring to becoming a VIP or just gaining membership in a cruise lines repeat passenger loyalty program?

 

If you are looking for info on the loyalty program then it will depend on what lines you have sailed on before you move up to a different status like gold, elite, diamond, etc.

 

If you are actually referring to a VIP on a cruise line then you need to cruise say over 100 cruises with one line, or always take the biggest suites available or come aboard with a special group. Twice I have been on a Princess cruise when a casino in Vegas has brought along many of its 'whales.' Those passengers all had special cruise cards which identified them as part of that group and they were treated as VIPs.
