mandiecandie5 Posted October 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2004 I'm curious what good deals St. Thomas has. Everyone always mentions Absolute vodka. Any others worth lugging home?!? What about Baileys or Malibu? :p

coiran Posted October 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2004 If you are stopping at St Martin - do your booze shopping there - Absolut at less than $6 per litre. Caribbean Paradise! Ron
michmike Posted October 7, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2004 Seems like we pay about $17 for a liter of glenfiddich. That compares to approx $36 for a fifth here in Michigan. I'm a bourbon drinker myself but wife likes scotch *yuck* Would assume comparable discounts on other single malts but have never checked as she prefers the glenfiddich. texasgirl Posted October 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Wow that's a deal on JW Blue! Guess we'll split our shopping between the two islands. We are planning to go to KMart to buy booze in St Thomas. I understand that's where the locals go for the best prices. Can anyone confirm that for me. Where in St Martin would be the best JW Blue price. I hear a lot about Caribbean Paradise.

The Islander Posted November 7, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 7, 2004 There are two K-marts on St. Thomas. One about 4 blocks from Havensight (where most ships dock) and another in the Tutu Shopping Center. --Islander *****
cpayne Posted November 8, 2004 #13 Share Posted November 8, 2004 We are currently vacationing in St Thomas for 10 days. Based on advice from these boards we checked out the alcohol prices at Kmart and they have been the best prices I've seen on the island so far. They are within walking distance from the cruise ship and they will even put it in the cardboard carrying case for you if you like. Kmart is easy to find, but you won't see them from the mall. You may have to ask. I don't know the street names, but look for Wendy's restaurant near the Havensight mall. There is kind of a T intersection at this mall. Go up the street that runs perpendicular to Wendy's. You'll see a Pueblo grocery store on your right and Kmart is a few blocks past this on your left in a small strip mall. cruzinwieds Posted November 8, 2004 #14 Share Posted November 8, 2004 Is there any difference in the amount of liters that can be brought back from St Thomas vs. St. Martin duty free in US.

mandiecandie5 Posted November 10, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted November 10, 2004 Thanks for the helpful map! It looks like the Kmart would be kind of a hike though, are the prices that much better or would I only end up saving like 1.00? Thanks again! :)
dafontana Posted November 12, 2004 #17 Share Posted November 12, 2004 When you go to the K-Mart, you might consider buying a bottle of Cruzan Single Barrel Rum. I have seen rum tastings where it is rated #1 in the world. To me, it tastes more like a good Cognac than rum.
reddog 23 Posted November 12, 2004 #18 Share Posted November 12, 2004 Any idea how much that Cruzon Single Barrel Rum would be at the K-mart?
BTfan Posted January 6, 2005 #19 Share Posted January 6, 2005 I'll keep my eye out for the Single Barrel Cruzan. I'm not positive on the rules, but you can bring back 5 litres total if the ship stops in St. Thomas (at least 1 liter needs to be a St Thomas product I think) and only 1 litre can be purchased outside of USVI. I would go for the Finlandia over the Absolut. Cheaper and better IMO. Absolut is a hangover in a bottle for me

This was my understanding as well- 5 liters from USVI (with 1 being a USVI product) and 1 liter from elsewhere OR purchased on the ship. Being that they like to sell a lot of liquor on the ship, I'm sure they won't point out the different allowances!
sstamm Posted January 8, 2005 #23 Share Posted January 8, 2005 Forgot to add that we spent a week in St. Thomas last summer and also found that K-mart to have the best prices. It isn't all that far up the road from the Wendy's. I'll probably have my taxi stop there on the way back from the beach.
HockeyMom44 Posted January 9, 2005 #24 Share Posted January 9, 2005 Walked from our ship to KMart. It is not far at all. Plan on doing it again when we are there in 2 weeks. Trudy
CaribbeanCrazy Posted January 20, 2005 #25 Share Posted January 20, 2005 Trudy, Would you say the walk to Kmart is 5 to 10 minutes at a medium pace? Also I have a question for all you locals. What time does it get dark in early Feb.? Or maybe I should ask what time does the sunset today. I could probably figure it out myself from that. Thanks CaribbeanCrazy
