1st time on Carnival - Victory

I just booked the 6/23 Victory sailing and have a few questions.

1) Are any of the sit-down restaurants open for lunch on embarkation day, or is only the buffet available?

2) What cold beverages are available at no-charge?

3) Is body wash provided in the shower?

4) On NCL, the room service menu (for non-suite cabins) is very limited - do you have many choices on Carnival?

5) Does anyone have any tips about the Victory they'd like to pass on?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

I went on the Victory last March and really enjoyed it! I was on Spring Break and there were a lot of other college students on the cruise which I enjoyed so I'm sure it not being Spring Break it will be a slightly different environment. I can try to answer some of your questions.

The cold beverages available at no charge are water, milk and juices. I've always gotten a fountrain soda card as I drink a lot of diet coke so it's been worth it to me. On a 7 day cruise I believe it is about 40-45 including the gratuity.

Room service is a about 2 pages. Offers the same free cold beverages, a few different salads, cold sandwiches, a few desserts. There is also breakfast which you can fill out a slip and leave it on the door which includes cereals, fruits, bagels, toast and muffins. It's not a huge selection, if you want a filling meal I'd go to the restaurant or buffet but it's nice for a sandiwch or afternoon snack.

I believe there is shampoo and body wash in the shower but I'm not entirely sure.

The pool gets very crowded very early so unless you want to be up on the top listening to the loud engine and away from the pool you should ge tup early. I don't know if it was because of the spring break crowd or what but chairs near the two main pools went very fast! I don't really have any other Victory specific tips besides the chairs though!

Have fun!!!!

I've never been on the Victory, but can answer most of your questions based on the other ships I've been on.

1 - On embarkation day only the Lido Buffet is open for lunch.

2 - At the buffet you can get iced tea, lemonade, fruit punch, milk, chocolate milk, water (not bottled). The same drinks are free in the dining room also. Soda, alcohol and bottled water are all an extra charge. You can also get free juices at the breakfast buffet and in the dining room during breakfast.

3 - There is body wash in the shower.

4 - Carnival also has a limited room service menu. It is mostly cold sandwichs, salads, deserts and drinks. Here is a link to the menu:

I've been on the Victory twice. Experience it and explore for yourself the special moments that make your vacation a great memory for you, and don't dwell too much upon expectations or you will fully be dissatisfied. Let it happen and do not decide in advance what to expect, and in return you will receive your greatest reward, a vacation beyond relief of everyday assembly and created nonfiction.

a couple of the decks have small public decks all the way front threw lil doors that are great for sailing in and out of ports they are not usually found by many people and but are not private and some cabins have windows out onto these decks but they are really good to get out if you dont have balcony

Hi, only the buffet is open for lunch during embarkation day.

Lemonade, Ice tea and Fruit punch are free of charge.

Body wash is provided in the shower free of charge.

The room service menu is limited on Carnival, not as extensive as going into one of their restaurants.

The Victory is a great, older ship, compared to the newer ones, not as large as the Valor or the Freedom, however it is beautiful and the service is excellent. They will be repositioning the Victory to San Juan to do the Southern Caribbean. (I do not know if this will happen late in the year of at the beginning of 2009).;)

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I am a planner so I like to know what to expect - no disappointments that way :p. My most recent cruise was on the NCL Sun and I absolutely loved that ship. I have no desire to cruise the new mega-ships so I think the Victory will be fine for me. As long as I'm on a ship, I'll be happy.

One important tip to remember is that decks 3 and 4 do not go from one end of the ship to the other; these are the decks for the dining rooms, and the galley is between the two dining rooms. Every other deck goes through. Deck 5 is the Promenade deck, where most of the lounges and the casino are located.
