Aft balcony on NCL Sun

We have decided on an Alaskan cruise for July 2009. Right now I can get an aft balcony on the Norwegian Sun.....the question is to do it or not? We saw some aft balconies on other ships on our last cruise and said "Wow! We want one of those!" but are they really THAT great?

 

We had a regular balcony on the Costa Fortuna this past March and it was fab and we'll never go back to an inside room.

We have taken many cruises and almost always get an aft suite. It's less traffic hardly anyone goes to the aft unless they have a cabin and such a calming effect with the wake of the ship. The balcony is large in the Penthouse suites. We had AC 0065 last Oct. over Halloween and had 18 people for a party in our suite. Butler brought in all kinds of food--just told him what we wanted, also had stewards bring extra chairs for balcony. Rearranged furniture to make a little more room. You have a seperate bedroom and huge bathroom. Even balcony doors out from the BR.

 

Anyway back to your question---YES they are that great --for us!!:D Hope you will love it too!

We where in aft cabin 9276 July 06-It was WONDERFUL--Large main cabin, great bath with tub, separate water closet,large walk-in clothes closet & a separate dressing room. If you can get it-Grab it NOW!!! Best cabin for Alaska because you can see both sides of the Inland Passage as you travel.

Only small negative, one time we found a small spec of shoot on our balcony chairs. We asked the room Stuart to clean or check the balcony daily. They also left us clean towels daily to put on the balcony chairs and offer to have any item that may be soiled to dry clean free of charge. It was not a big thing. Enjoy this great cabin----Sea/FAB

Are the BA balconies aft overlooking the wake larger than other BAs? It looks as if possibly the 4 midship BAs by the elevator, amidst the suites might also have larger balconies. Can anyone give a ballpark sq ft figure of comparison between any old BA and those aft and/or midship by suite ones? Please advise. Thanks

There are three kinds of aft balcony cabins on the Sun. There are Penthouse Suites, Mini Suites, and Balcony rooms. On the 8th deck you can hear the music from the show lounge, but it is over about 10:30, so for most people it's only a minor concern. On the 10th deck you are directly below an eating area and occasionally something, like a napkin or empty cup blows onto the deck. Again, not a big problem. There can be soot on the aft cabins depending upon the wind direction. Do NOT sit on the deck chairs without checking first. It doesn't happen all the time, or even on all cruises. Now with all that said, the aft cabins are my very favorite place on the ship. It's darker at night so you can really enjoy the stars. There is a sort of 'white noise' from the wake that most of us find very calming. I hope you grabbed that cabin, there aren't very many of them.
