Someone had mentioned in a past post about buying crates of pineapplesat the airport...Just wondering..how many per crate and what is the cost? Thanks, Nicole
spleen93 Posted October 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2004 Don't know off the top of my head -- but when you get to Honolulu International, you may want to have someone run upstairs to departures and check the prices. :) BTW, they're not crates - they're prepackaged boxes. MandyMPwife Posted October 6, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2004 I know you can get them from the Dole Plantation and Dole will have them waiting at the airport for you in a package. My mom wanted to do it last year, but it was rather expensive. Mandy
Ka Honu Posted October 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2004 If you have military privileges, go to an exchange (including Hale Koa in Waikiki). They're MUCH cheaper there.
Suebee Posted October 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2004 Ka Honu - Have you tried that? I am thinking about the quality of the fruit vs Dole.
Ka Honu Posted October 8, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2004 I do it whenever I take pineapples to the mainland. It is Dole - you pay at the exchange and pick up at the airport.

I wish I would have known that last year. What exchange do you do that at? I havent seen anything about it at Schofield.

Ka Honu Posted October 9, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 9, 2004 I usually go to Hale Koa (but only because I'm in Waikiki once or twice a week).
MandyMPwife Posted October 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Well, at least I know this time so my parents can do that next year when they come out to visit me. Thanks!!! Mandy
cruisersdm Posted October 11, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Just got back from the Infinity from Vancouver to Hawaii. We bought three pineapples at the airport in a carrying case for $ 9.99.
spleen93 Posted October 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Thanks! Doesn't seem too bad for pricing. (could have been a lot worse! :D) Spleen
Sea Island Lady Posted October 12, 2004 #13 Share Posted October 12, 2004 We just returned also. We were going to buy a case of pineapples have have them shipped back. All the stores in the airport had the 3 pack and the clerk told us that the shipping was more than the pineapples. My DH refused to carry even a 3 pack, so we came back with nothing. They sure were good in Hawaii though. The pineapple on the ship was awful, touch and tasteless.
TylerG Posted October 27, 2004 #14 Share Posted October 27, 2004 Just came back Sunday, at the airport they were 3 for 19.99. You can either cary them back or take them to the check in desk and they will check them as luggage for you.
spleen93 Posted October 27, 2004 #15 Share Posted October 27, 2004 Hmmm ... 3 for $9.99 versus 3 for $19.99 - big difference! I'll have to take a look next week when I'm in the airport. Spleen
