Counter-attack the chair hogs!!!

How long do you "watch" a set of chairs before deciding they are fair game and taking over?

It seems there may a different time limit set on saving lounge chairs on each individual ship. On my last NOS sailing, the rule, which actually was enforced, by the way, was 30 minutes unattended. I have heard of other ships though, that give the offenders an hour and I have also heard many reports that the rules are not enforced at all. If you have the patience to wait 30 minutes while watching a particular chair or group of chairs, I think you would have given the offenders plenty of time to claim their stake.

On a different train of thought, the idea that AD and I had about gastronomical revenge works far better in a proactive forum rather than reactive. The offenders do not always have to be absent from the deck. On many occasions, you will find the same thing happening with the lounge chairs that has been previously discussed about table hogs, with one person saving an entire block of chairs. It is that person that will suffer for saving chairs for others longer than the allotted time. And you can use AD's Jacuzzi idea to your advantage by stating that the bubbles in the spa are all yours if you care to give a warning first.

Several cruises, but why list them when no one cares?

Well, on our cruise a couple of weeks ago, that is exactly what I did - I picked up someone's belongings and handed them to the deck attendants, indicating that their "stuff" had been there for well over a couple of hours. icon_wink.gif

I have a new solution for the chair hogging problem all over the ship. All of the chairs near the pool, in the dining room, in the Windjammer, the theatre, the ice rink, etc. will be removed. When boarding the ship each passenger will be given a folding chair which you take with you wherever you go on the ship. If you want to eat in the dining room you bring your chair or if you want to sit by the pool you bring your chair. Since there is only one chair in total on the ship for each person no one will be able to save any chairs...

My solution to the deck-chair-hogs problem: I bring Anna Nicole Smith with me on every cruise. icon_rolleyes.gif (Yeah, my wife approves of this tactic.) If I need an empty chair pooside, I just send Anna somewhere else on the ship and voila! Lots of empty poolside deck chairs.

If I need a seat in the casino, I just send Anna somewhere else on the ship and voila! Plenty of empty seats in the casino. icon_eek.gif

Just back from Mariner and the pool attendants did a great job clearing belongings from deck chairs. If three or four were saved he dumped all the "stuff" on one and he was constantly going round the pool checking the chairs.

Pick up their stuff (t-shirts, books, etc.) and take them to the lost and found. Do that enough, you'll send everyone there looking for their stuff - then the whole deck is yours!

OR : sit in the chair and start reading the book. Tell them they are crazy, you have been there for 3 hours, and they have port and starboard sides mixed up. Then skedaddle with the book (if it's any good).

Or, the classic, "you snooze, you lose" and see ya!

My biggest complaint about the chair hogging was the pool towels. There were pool towels on alot of the chairs and you aren't quite sure if they are in use or being left for the Deck Attendants. If someone leaves just a pool towel, is it okay to remove it and use the chair? Just curious so I'll know next time.
