Sailing Into Port Worth Seeing

Hello All:

 

I am on the Noordam on the 9/14/08 sailing and am in an inside cabin.

 

Can anyone tell me if any of the ports are must sees for sailing into Port?

 

We stop at the following:

 

Livorno

Monte Carlo

Barcelona

Palma De Mallorca

La Goulette, Tunis

Palermo

Naples

 

All are early port days and want to know which ones I should make sure I am on deck for.

Well since we were in a balcony and I ALWAYS wake up when the ship begins to slow down as we come into port.... I can tell you the ones I know.....

 

Livorno - sleep in. Italys largest port area and very industrial.

 

Barcelona - can go either way on this one. Nothing stupendous in my opinion.

 

Naples - might want to set the alarm for this one. The Amalfi coast is pretty neat ! Vesuvius is visable and the dock area is interesting.

 

Monte Carlo - we actually tendered in Villefranche - down the coast a bit. This area is also pretty neat from the water.

Now, hopefully someone can post opinions on Palma de Mallorca, La Goulette (Tunis) and Messina (Sicily).

 

I also assume Cittavechia is nothing special?

We sailed OUT of Civitavecchia not IN..... so can't really tell ya what that's like. The port itself is nothing special.

Saw Palermo but not Messina on your OP. If you are going through the Strait of Messina, it is pretty neat. There is only about two miles of water that separate Sicily from the mainland at the narrowest point.
