carlyshenk Posted October 8, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2004 Byron Lee and the Dragonnaires (Ragga Ragga and Red Red Wine), this is the music that immediately takes me back to the Caribbean on board a Celebrity ship while relaxing on a deck chair with a Pina Colada. llmoyer123 Posted October 8, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted October 8, 2004 they don't have to be music you've specifically heard on a cruise ship....just music pertaining to sailing or the ocean or the caribbean or......well, just being on the beach! thanks for the input! CruisingChick Posted October 8, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2004 On our very first cruise the singer/guitarist-his name was Gary, in the lounge before dinner, Manhattans sang Christopher Cross' sailing. It was great. Every Celebrity cruise I've been on I've requested it of certain singers in Michael's Club, but none of them have known it. I would love to hear it again on a crusie. Brings back so many found memories. Anne Maria
wesp Posted October 8, 2004 #13 Share Posted October 8, 2004 I enjoy: 1. Sounds of the sea against the hull 2. The wind in the rigging 3. Rumbling of the ships exhaust 4. The clink of the fork as it picks up the last bite of dessert Wesley
friarfan Posted October 8, 2004 #14 Share Posted October 8, 2004 Jimmy Buffet rules on a cruise, but any type of steel drum island music is also welcome. All accomplishes the same thing: gets you in the mood to have fun. A few margaritas can't hurt either.
ric4003 Posted October 8, 2004 #15 Share Posted October 8, 2004 The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. Songs about shipwrecks always brighten my day while on a cruise.
Druke I Posted October 8, 2004 #16 Share Posted October 8, 2004 The Last Farewell by Roger Whittaker usually brings a tear to my eye. They were playing that on a documentary of the old P&O troopers shown on board the old Pacific Princess when we did Australia/NewZealand way bck in Jan 95. teedee Posted October 8, 2004 #17 Share Posted October 8, 2004 Just about anything by Jimmy Buffet or Bob Marley as well as these: Barbados by Poco, A Place In The Sun and Sailing to Paradise by Pablo Cruise, Sailing by Rod Stewart, Back To The Island by Leon Russell. For Hawaiian cruises anything by Arthur Lyman. Terri
moorendpark Posted October 8, 2004 #18 Share Posted October 8, 2004 Another vote for Christopher Cross and "Sailing". In fact, it's "our song". Having met and worked for Royal Viking Line for years, it always brings back happy memories when we hear it.

Randyk47 Posted October 8, 2004 #21 Share Posted October 8, 2004 Red Red Wine played around the pool by a steel band is one of our favorite songs that we associate with cruising. For dancing....Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh. Lady in Red was the nickname I gave my wife years and years before we got married.

Rare DrKoob Posted October 9, 2004 #24 Share Posted October 9, 2004 Here's something new for you. If you are cruising to Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica or South America, try anything latin by a very hot new Los Angeles group called Ozomatli (translation is monkey in Aztec). If you hear the music and you don't start dancing, let me know.
Mjane2004 Posted October 9, 2004 #25 Share Posted October 9, 2004 This is unrelated to cruise music on the ship. But I loved the commercial Celebrity had about a year ago featuring the song "Somewhere over the rainbow" I thought that was a great commercial! That song will always remind me of my first cruise.
