Okay, another question - we are flying into Miami and as of right now plan on driving to Las Olas...is CoCo Walk in Miami anything nice? Just trying to save some money but willing to spend more for something nicer

We stayed at the Doubletree in the Coconut Grove area in February and really enjoyed it. We spent the afternoon in the Coco Walk area - lots of shops, art galleries and restuarants. You can also walk along the bay forever! There is a nice boardwalk that weaves in and out of the marina area and of course, there are more restaurants in this area. We had an incredible dinner there at Monty's Raw Bar. It has mostly outdoor seating and is right on the water. Loved that spot and look to return there on our next trip to Miami.

Is the walk to CocoWalk and the bay all sidewalks (wheelchair freindly)?

The sidewalks were definitely in great shape for wheelchairs - some streets are a little hilly. I honestly can't remember the material for the bay area but I want to say it was a wooden boardwalk with narrow slats...sorry I can't be more specific about that.

Thanks for the info. Is the walk to CoCoWalk (shops & restaurants) a reasonable one? Is the area safe?

I suppose it depends on where you are walking from?>

We found the area to be very safe and very pretty. There are not a lot of hotels in the area - many high rise condos, etc.

We are thinking of staying at the Doubletree Coconut Grove and their site says a ten minute walk...does that sound about right?

Yes, definitely in the neighborhood of 10 - 15 minutes or so. Check the Doubletree's website for more info on the area. It is a very nice place IMHO.:)

The Mayfair Hotel is in the middle of Coconut Grove, so there is another hotel besides the Doubletree, but according to TripAdvisor it is currently under 4 years of construction and noisy, and has really gone downhill.
