Nice! No provocation, no cause, no reason! Just being a "thug" from "the Hood" What a hero! I hope someone recognises this piece of dog crap so he can be brought to justice, send to County Jail, were maybe, just maybe, he can get a taste of his own medicine!

Cameras are there to make sure no one forces their way into a cabin as well as making sure no one is stealing soap, shampoo and towels off the carts and room service dishes from trays in the hallway. Many hotels do this too. It can also catch the occasional guest that gets locked out after going into the hall dressed or un.

Anybody who watches me on camera when I am "un" deserves (a) a raise or (b) something to settle their stomach.

The Norwegian Dawn, like many of the NCL ships, was originally designed and built for Asian service with Star Cruises. Star Cruise ships carry many millions of dollars in their casinos and have a "Las Vegas" style Security mentality. They keep very close tabs on all public areas.

The NCL Dawn has over 1500 security cameras inside and outside the ship.

HAL ships have only a few dozen surveillance cameras onboard, primarily in the Casino, the Shops, and at the gangway.

UPDATE: Arrest in bus driver assault

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in the videotaped beating of a Milwaukee County bus driver last week, Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. said during a news conference this afternoon.

Clarke said the boy told investigators he attacked the driver because another driver had refused to allow to him to use a fraudulent transfer pass earlier in the day.

A citizen who had seen video of the beating on the news called the sheriff's office Friday and said she had seen the suspect a number of times outside a nearby high school, Clarke said.

Clarke said an administrator at another high school later identified the boy after investigators showed the video to the administrator.

Investigators then staked out the boy's north side house Monday and arrested him during a traffic stop about 1 p.m., Clarke said.

The boy had told a number of people about the beating and confessed to investigators, Clarke said.

The sheriff's office is now awaiting the results of tests on forensic evidence from the bus, including palm prints, Clarke said.

The attack occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday, when a masked male boarded the bus near N. 60th St. and W. Silver Spring Drive and immediately began beating the driver.

The bus driver drove about two blocks north on N. 60th St. before the man grabbed the steering wheel and stepped on the accelerator.

The bus traveled about another 50 yards before crashing into a tree near N. 60th St. and W. Carmen Ave.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries, but no other injuries were reported.

The man got off the bus and ran north

Would think the security officer monitors the cameras. He's not on the bridge.

We've been on the bridge on Vista Class, "S" Class and "R" Class ships and I have no memory of seeing surveillance camera screens. It's hard to believe there would be no security cameras anywhere on the ship. I find that just about impossible to believe.

Perhaps they don't watch the camera images live but can pull tapes if there is an incident.

Hard to think there would be no cameras in the shops and certainly the casino.

Not sure if you are aware that the security officer reports to the Chief Officer and is thus part of the Deck Dept. (golden bands, one of which is looped) meaning he can also be found on the bridge.

I was up in the Lido with a crew member having a chat and a bite to eat and the subject came up about security cameras. We were on the Westerdam which is the third Vista Class ship. The Lido has those ceiling cameras that are covered by a tinted globe and they are spread out all over. I was told that each new ship has even more cameras located through out the ship in public areas for security reasons. After seeing this in the Lido I did indeed see globes in many different public areas. I guess you will not find as many on the older ships but the Westerdam and Noordam are for sure the most "up to date" in terms of security camera locations and these images are monitored around the clock in a security room. Apparently they have add more with each build. That was my understand at least.

Another interesting question in terms of surveillance in this instance would be the bar tab. My coworker asked this: would they have a record of alcohol charged to the room? Of course, there are a lot of loopholes in this, too, but it is something to think about when the question of alcohol consumption comes up...
