Under 21's in cabin

I was wondering how others have got around this problem.

We are on the grand in Dec and have: DH & I in one cabin, Mum & Step father in one, Daughter (18) and Step daughter (21) together and my 20 year old son on his own. I have been told that anyone under 21 cannot be in a cabin on their own.

If I book this as a changed combination so at least there is one 21 year old + in each cabin and then when we get on board, change back to our original plan - will this cause any problems for us? We are all close together along the same passage way. I don't want to put the three kids in together.

Has anyone encountered this situation?

Thanks

Kellie

I believe that your 20 year ld son can stay in an adjoining cabin. If that fails you can book him with your DH and you alone. Then you can switch on board and get the cruise cards changed by the purser.

As long as he is booked in an adjoining room or directly across the hall; there is no problem. You could also book one of the other over 21s in his room & get extra keys... we're having to do this on our upcomming trip because the teens are not directly across the hall. (they are one over since the one directly across was already booked.)

As long as it is booked as an 'escorted 'cabin there is no problem, regardless of the stateroom location (i.e. they do not have to be adjoining or directly across the hall). You just need to tell whomever is booking this that one of the over 21 cabins is the escort for the cabin . That way you needn't go throught the whole room-key issue etc. The minimum age to be alone in a cabin that is 'escorted 'is 16 to my recollection.Hope this helps. ;)

Princess allows teens/young adults to be in a cabin without someone over 21 if their parent(s) are on the same ship. If you are bringing a friend for your child, then they will make you book that friend into a cabin with someone over 21; but your own kids, they let you just be nearby. (IIRC that means same deck)

We've done this for a long time. We book two cabins; my wife nominally with one son, and me with the other. On board. we get extra key cards (not cruise cards, but just room keys) for the other rooms. Then my wife & I stay together, and the kids in the other room.

We typically book a balcony / mini-suite for on room, and put the kids in an interior room. Works great ...
