Pam in CA Posted May 26, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 26, 2008 Interesting. And also interesting that NBC can't spell "pier" or else doesn't know the difference between "peer" and "pier."

Pam in CA Posted May 26, 2008 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2008 Ah the product of our great schools of journalism...That too, but I was thinking: overdependence on spell checkers and the editor not taking the time to READ the story.
ancldaca Posted May 26, 2008 Author #9 Share Posted May 26, 2008 At that point, isn't it the harbor pilot who's in charge, not the Captain?
smeyer418 Posted May 26, 2008 #10 Share Posted May 26, 2008 The New Queen Victoria smashed into a dock last week---much worse than the Spirit that sailed on time. The QV missed a port and had to go to a dock for repairs. The QM 2 on its maiden viyage tore off a pod containing one of its four propulsion unit and missed many ports. This was a ding, if it wasn't for the fact it happened in NY you might not of even heard of it... except in the Panama canal the harbor pilot is never in charge. he makes recommendations(which are generally listened to) but the Captain is in charge
B40 Tha Cruisa Posted May 26, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 26, 2008 I was going to ask the same thing, harbor pilot anyone? Someone who knows the waters...
MaryPoppinz Posted May 26, 2008 #12 Share Posted May 26, 2008 The piece I saw suggested that the captain was actually piloting the ship at the time. Whoever it was...whoa, slow down a bit, buddy!
tvaud Posted May 26, 2008 #13 Share Posted May 26, 2008 Interesting. And also interesting that NBC can't spell "pier" or else doesn't know the difference between "peer" and "pier." Ah the product of our great schools of journalism... OK...let's blame the correct source. It's the local station, WNBC, NY, not the network that made the spellng error. The people updating the website are usually not too far up the food chain. But yes, I do agree that the editors should check the information more closely.;)
