Aplmac Posted May 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2008 Does anyone know if there are any tours that take you to see the Green Monkeys and either the beer factory or rum factory or even both factories? I want to see the monkeys and DH wants to tour beer or rum places. Sounds like you should get your own taxi driver and have him do your own custom-built tour? These things can be done but because the green monkey thing (reliable sightings, that is) is at Barbados Wildlife Reserve way up North that/monkeys.. and your husband's Rum interests are wide-spread apart by almost the length of the island!! The two things you do have going for you in your plan.. is that 1. The rum locations are both close to the Port(you can see your ship from both rum locales) and 2. you'll get to see a fair bit of the island en route to the Wildlife Reserve! IF by some chance RCI's tour takes you to Mt.Gay's DISTILLERY at Mount Gay in St.Lucy -up North (I rather doubt that one but still..) then Rum and Monkeys are not far from ea.other! _____________________________ These pix taken around my house in suburban Bridgetown! mel9294 Posted May 27, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted May 27, 2008 Thanks for your help. Maybe I will let DH win this one, since I have picked everything else! :p I bet those monkeys can really drive you nuts! That is how people in Iowa feel about the deer here. Our friends in large cities think it is neat that the animals come in the yard, but for people living here, it can be a real menace as they can be quite destructful! Thanks again for your help!:)
Aplmac Posted May 27, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 27, 2008 I bet those monkeys can really drive you nuts! That's how people in Iowa feel about the deer here. Our friends in large cities think it is neat that the animals come in the yard, but for people living here, it can be a real menace as they can be quite destructive! Yes, the Vervet monkeys in Barbados can be quite destructive, taking a bite out of everything, rather than just take a few of the fruit and be happy with them, but no, they'll nibble on everything..often seeking moisture content in Dry Season - thay're not so bad in Rainy Season. But where we live they're cute (no farmers or kitchen gardeners!) That last picture I posted(above) shows one scampering across my old-lady-neighbour's roof while two others look on approvingly! God knows what Mrs. Connell thought of the noise on her roof! Just this morning my wife saw a large-ish troop of nine in our garden mothers with young babies hanging on underneath their mothers.. playful 'teenagers' ...the whole bit including a Big Daddy guard keeping watch. - Attitudes towards them depend on whether you're a farmer or not! It got to be so bad that the local Min. of Agriculture had a bounty on their heads. Not sure if that still obtains ___________________________ Here they are again all over my upstairs neighbour's balcony!!
