TIMONEY Posted May 31, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2008 Sailed Celebrity several times, love the service and food, thinking of trying RCCL. Radiance Of the Seas 14 night Alaska trip, really like the itinerary. Whats the biggest differences between it and the M-class ships of Celebrity. Gonzo70 Posted May 31, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2008 Sailed Celebrity several times, love the service and food, thinking of trying RCCL. Radiance Of the Seas 14 night Alaska trip, really like the itinerary. Whats the biggest differences between it and the M-class ships of Celebrity. Garry and Vickie I think the biggest difference between these two cruise lines is Celebrity tends to be more of a relaxing, slightly more upscale experience (i.e. few overhead announcements, waiters rarely perform songs/dances, welcome champagne) but also somewhat more sedate experience (less nighttime activities, casino closes earlier, less active type activities such as rock climbing and mini golf etc.). With a 14 day itinerary the crowd on Royal Caribbean will be a bit older than for their shorter cruises so that may lend to a passenger demographic more akin to a typical Celebrity cruise. I found the service similar on both lines, but the food a bit higher quality on Celebrity across all areas (buffet, main dining room, and specialty). People also tend to be a bit dressier on Celebrity. I think that both cruise lines are great, they just provide a somewhat different experience. jackdiamond Posted May 31, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2008 Gonzo 70's assessment is fairly accurate. Berlitz rates the "M" class at 1697 and the Radiance at 1546.
Schplinky Posted May 31, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2008 I agree with Gonzo. We're big RCL fans, admittedly, and the fellow who "writes" the Berlitz guide says openly he is not so I wouldn't put a lot of stock in his rating, which really just represent his own priorities for a cruise. I think on a longer cruse, the passengers on an RCL and X will resemble each other in most ways. X tends to have one main actvitiy in an evening while RCL often adds a second activity afterward (a game show or some such thing) after the main event, for those who would like to keep going. We find food service on both to be similar but Celebrity does have sommeliers, if you're a wine buff and that matters to you.
jackdiamond Posted June 1, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 1, 2008 We have often cruised on the Radiance class and the M class; and, we enjoy both classes. However, we personally agree with the Berlitz assessment.
